The performance of any light fixture depends on what bulb light source you're using. Incandescent bulbs produce a yellowish-white light that is emitted in all directions. They're available in either clear or frosted styles. More specialized tungsten halogen bulbs produce a bright, white light. They have a longer life and provides more light per watt than regular incandescent bulbs. Fluorescent bulbs use 1/5 to 1/3 as much electricity as incandescent bulbs and last up to 20 times longer.

Or go to an energy-efficient compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) that uses 66% less energy than standard bulbs. Dimmers can be used with incandescent lights, including low-voltage systems, but only with new-screw-based dimmable fluorescent bulbs. Other fluorescent lights must have their own dimmable ballasts.
