The most common question asked about buying a new area rug has to do with size.
For smaller rooms or seating areas, the most commonly bought size of rug is a 5
x 8. The eight foot length spans most sofas and sectionals and works with most furniture
arrangements of side chairs and tables. For larger rooms or seating areas, measure
the area created by the seating pattern, then add one or two feet to each side to
get a rough size. When choosing an area rug to cover an entire floor area, leave
a foot or so of exposed flooring around the rug’s perimeter. Finally, we always
recommend purchasing a rug pad for your new area rug to prevent it from slipping
or bunching.
