Whether or not you're ready for it, pattern and color are celebrating a resurgence in current interior design trends. People are having fun with design and embracing new shapes, looks and eclectic styles.
Something I'm majorly crushing on at the moment is the injection of natural materials in different applications. Geode and Agate are natural stones that have amazingly beautiful color and pattern that are dominating at the moment.
Let's dissect how to bring some Geode and Agate to your space.
Ideas for using natural elements in your home decor.
The natural stone itself is so gorgeous, it lends itself to make a beautiful statement anywhere in your home. The first image from Better Homes and Gardens shows how to display Geodes in your home. Neutral tones, natural elements and rustic touches let the natural elements shine. Notice how grouping them in different shapes and sizes allows the natural movement and variation of each piece to stand out.
Another creative way to incorporate the natural stone into your home decor is with this simple yet oh so chic floating bookshelf. Blood and Champagne shared this image that so simply brings the natural world inside. This is perfect for a small entryway or accent wall that needs a little bit of personality.
Art inspired by natural elements.
These representations of the natural material is beautifully incorporated in this home decor above. Distinct wall art can either stand alone as a statement piece of can be combined with similar colors to really make a statement.
The styled bar cart above from Pop Sugar is just the piece to add character and fun to any room in your house.
Stylish fireplace design with agate walls.
There is one surefire way to make a supremely bold statement in your home - Agate walls! While this image above, from Shop Sweet Things, demonstrates the ultimate agate fireplace. The beauty of it is undeniable!
Wallpaper pattern using natural elements as inspiration.
On the other hand, if you don't want to break bank, but still want a wall of beauty, an agate or geode inspired wallpaper will definitely do the trick!
This beautiful black and white bathroom from Decor Pad mixes natural materials with artistic agate wallpaper and I couldn't be more in love. A hanging wall mirror adds a simple reflection of the wild wallpaper without competing with it.
Modern dining room design with agate wallpaper panels.
In this midcentury dining room from Mix and Chic bold, large scale agate wallpaper is inlayed into the existing moulding. This is a cool, fun way to add pattern and color while still confining to the original details of the space. The neutral tones of the wallpaper function perfectly with the leather chairs and glass table.

If you don’t have an LED desk lamp, here’s why you should.
Desk lamps are work essentials. As an important part of your day-to-day, a desk lamp shouldn’t be overlooked with just any old light fixture you can pick up at an office supply store. And here’s why....
The warm glow from the Arts & Crafts styled LED desk lamps offer a traditional look for an office space.
LED desk lamps are fiscally smart. Whether you work for a company or work for yourself, saving money is always rewarded and appreciated by the boss.
LED desk lamps use at least 75% less energy than incandescent, produce less heat, and are more durable, according to Energy Star. And they are designed to work for 20+ years, and cost less to operate.
LED desk lamps share your personality. Let’s face it. Even if you have the best of intentions, desks are cluttered with work to do, work that’s past due and work that we’ll just never do.
In an effort to make more space, we’re often left with those functional items to express our individuality. Taking the time to select those functional items (stapler, pen, phone charger, desk lamp) in a style, color and materials that bring you joy will make the space around the piles a bit happier.
Some LED desk lamps are incredibly space efficient.
Since LED desk lamps offer such a variety of styles, let’s talk style.
An assumption that I encounter too frequently is that LED lamps are ‘space age’ looking and ‘way too modern.’ So true, and so false. There are LED desk lamps that are super sleek and modern, but there also are so many other styles from Arts & Crafts to aged industrial. Here's some examples of the variety...
1. Quoizel Whitney LED Mica Shade Bronze Desk Lamp
2. Mr. N - Silver Accent LED Table Lamp by Koncept
3. Theo Industrial Dark Bronze LED Desk Lamp
4. Mighty Bright LUX Architect Brushed Nickel LED Desk Lamp
So why not start the new year by saving money, while showing off your style with your new LED desk lamp?!

When it comes to decorating, I'm all about the pretty.
The texture and color and pattern and hue and patina and how it fits into a room.
The function? Ummm....just between us....not so much.
But this is a new year and a new style and I'm turning over a new decoration leaf. So when I went to shop for a new floor lamp, I was all about the function. I was intent on finding a task light for reading in the front room and I concentrated on the function and how it, basing my selection on what I was going to use it for.
And I found it!
And a little bit of pretty, along the way (but you knew I was going to say that).
Here's some ideas for functional and stylish floor lamp options for your 2015 home, including some antique brass floor lamps.
I present to you the perfect blend of pretty and function with this wood surveyor tripod lamp.
It looks like a lamp Lewis and Clark might have used when they surveyed the Louisiana Purchase. The legs are a beautiful wood with brass accents and the shade mimics the look of aged linen.
The lamp would look perfect next to a pair of leather chairs in a library or study.
This antique brass pharmacy tripod floor lamp is so functional and yet it looks like a sculpture from a museum.
The arm is adjustable as well, making it a perfect option for a multitude of tasks. The lamp would fit in perfectly, tucked into a reading corner in a bedroom or den.
I thought of the little black dress the first time I saw this aged brass floor lamp.
It stood out from all the others on the page. The clean contemporary lines and stylish accents update a space instantly.
This floor lamp would blend perfectly with a variety of styles and trends.
The ultimate in form meets the ultimate in fashion with this adjustable brass floor lamp.
No matter what the function, this lamp is up for the task. The beautiful brass patina and narrow shade would help to illuminate any room.
Go ahead, transform your space with any or all of these functional and stylish lighting options. After all, this is the year for the perfect blend of beauty and utility.

Functional family room storage can also be stylish!
Whether it’s watching Harry Potter movie marathons with a giant tub of buttery popcorn, stretching out on a comfy sofa with a glass of wine, doing homework or just curling up with a good book, the family room is a place the whole family can enjoy together.
To get maximum use out of the family room, it’s great to come together as a family and determine exactly how each person uses the space.
Are the kids constantly doing their homework on the sofa? Maybe it’s time to add a desk and stylish table lamp...
Movie buffs? Then, a media cabinet with lots of storage for DVDs and CDs is a must.
This living room turned storage space into something stylish.
Since the family room is a place where the clutter can collect quickly, take advantage of the new year to lend a fresh look at the family room and get it in tip-top shape. Here's are some ideas for stylish storage...
Move everything out of the room (from rugs to art to furniture). A blank slate will yield a fresh perspective. Using what you have, try new furniture arrangements until you find one that works.
Consider moving a bedroom desk downstairs or if your rug is too small to anchor the main furniture pieces, try switching it out with a rug from another room.
Don’t move everything back into the room. Be thoughtful about what really needs to be in there and move, donate or toss the rest.
With a place for everything and everything in its place, staying organized will be a cinch. A reading nook should have a comfy chair, a lamp and plenty of books and magazines stored nearby. A tv area should have DVD, CD, video game storage.
Now that you’ve pared down to the bare essentials, it’s time to find a place for everything. Baskets can hold extra throws and pillows, bins can store magazines, and trays are perfect for corralling remote controls.
For those pieces of furniture that just don’t work in the space anymore, replace them with furniture that can also serve as extra storage.
Include functional furniture, like a coffee table with baskets for storage.
As families grow and change over time, the needs of the family room may also change so don’t be afraid to re-access the room to make sure it’s being used to it’s fullest potential.
1) This beautiful piece of furniture is a media cabinet in disguise with storage galore.
2) Lace detailing on this Black bookcase would look equally beautiful filled with a favorite collection, family photos or piled high with books.
3) Rest your feet on this trunk coffee table and store blankets, pillows and magazines inside.
4) The fun words on this slim sofa table add humor as well as extra storage.
5) A pull out desk is a space saver.
6) Every reading nook needs good lighting and this clear glass table lamp can be filled with vacation souvenirs.
7) There’s no end to the things you can pile into these stylish storage baskets – from toys to books to remote controls.

Feeling blah in the morning while getting ready for your day? The quickest fix is right in front of you!
Swapping out the boring 1960s, frameless mirror for something that has more of your personality can make a big difference. Not only will you brighten up your bathroom decor but you'll brighten up your day.
Gorgeous Domino Magazine images help inspire us to glam up our bathroom wall mirrors!
Something as simple as a wall mirror can change the look of your entire bathroom.
When you are embracing the rustic, monochromatic look make sure your mirror pops! Wood wall mirrors maintain the rustic feel but add an extra injection of style and substance to whitewashed bathroom walls.
A round mirror looks great above this bathtub.
Do you have a lot of space above the tub? Adding a round style mirror above the bathtub helps bounce light around the room, adding style and function to your space. The grey mirror above plays perfectly with the color palette of this spa-like oasis.
Round wall mirrors are great for switching up the traditional bathroom style.
If you already have that moody, graphic thing going on in your bathroom, the best way to compliment that while still having your wall mirror pop is to go against the grain. Round wall mirrors stand out on top of graphic lines and draw the eye to them.
If you're in an older house chances are you have tile wainscoting, like this gorgeous bathroom.
Most older bathrooms have taller ceilings so the wall tiling can go quite high. In order to accommodate this, install a thin-framed vintage inspired mirror that overlaps with the tile. The coper frame of the mirror pops over the tile pattern while still letting the pattern define the space.

This stylish home office by Homepolish is great inspiration to update your workspace for the New Year
Whether you're a CEO working in a sleek high-rise; an entrepreneur with a decked-out home office; or a teen with a steady stream of incoming homework, everyone needs a comfortable and quiet space to sit down and get 'er done. Many New Year's Resolutions revolve around productivity and deadlines, so might I suggest an update to your workspace to set yourself up for success?
To create an office that's both stylish and functional, you'll need 3 things: a desk, an office chair, and a desk lamp.
A statement-making desk, like this one by Jennifer Pacca interiors, is the centerpiece of any home office
The primary purpose of a desk is function, so choose a work surface with storage options and a large enough workspace to suit your needs. Most home office desks have at least one or two drawers to corral supplies and clutter, and some even have hidden cable management (a huge benefit for neat-freaks like me!). If your work is primarily paperless and wireless, a sleek console table can often serve double-duty as a desk.

If I can give you one piece of advice when updating your workspace, it's this: invest in a great desk chair. Not only will your knees and back thank you, your productivity is guaranteed to increase if you're not distracted by discomfort. There's an abundance of beautiful, affordable desk chair options out there. If you don't require a chair that swivels or has castors, a dining chair is a stylish alternative.
Gosto Design & Lifestyle's colorful kids desk is the perfect space for homework projects
A desk lamp is the perfect way to inject personality to your workspace. Be bold with your lighting and make a design statement! LED desk lamps are sleek and modern. Kids desk lamps are whimsical and fun. Or for a more "homey" look, try a table lamp instead of a typical desk lamp design.

This modern Art Deco style room features a gorgeous modern floor lamp.
Modern floor lamps are perhaps one of the most versatile forms of lighting. Not only can you find any type of material that will work with your specific design scheme, you can also get any type of style from the huge selection of decorative floor lamps available.
Want Neo Classical? Done. Desire Mid-century? Have your pick! The other great thing about floor lamps is that they are great space savers. I have informed so many clients that there's no need to fret if you don’t have room for an end table and lamp... All you need is a slim floor lamp next to a sofa or bed to illuminate a room. The images from Marcus Design Inc. capture floor lamps at their best.
Classic brass floor lamps are a design staple.
While pharmacy style lamps have been a popular choice for decades, this material has been given new life in a crisp and modern way, thanks to modern design. A perfect example is this Holtkoetter Antique Brass Metal Cone Floor Lamp above. Clean, simple and always in style next to an arm chair or sofa.
The multi-light floor lamp offers great light coverage, including task lighting if near a desk or chair.
The basic tenant of modernity means you can reinterpret something old and make it fresh like the Draper 3-Light Mid-century Modern Floor Lamp. Based on a classic 1950s desk lamp, this floor lamps is updated for today’s modern living.
The chic look of multi-metal floor lamps.
The use of multiple metals allows you versatility. There are no longer strict rules about the types of metals you can use in a room or having to stick to just one.
I happen to love brass and black together, like in the Jonathan Adler Black and Brass Antwerp Floor Lamp. Look how it offers a fresh and functional twist to a room that incorporates many styles, including French Rococo and Art Deco. Simply marvelous!
I love the slender column design of the Robert Abbey Lucy Bronze 3-Way Floor Lamp.
Iron floor lamps are as timeless as brass, but updated in a wonderful way. It nods to classical architecture but is contemporary all the way!

Traditional lighting fits beautifully in this English style bathroom design.
Embracing formal bathroom lighting is one way of keeping traditional style alive in a world eager to modernize everything. There is something very romantic about a timeless bath and Belgian Pearls had some glorious pictures that show why.
It reminds me of period movies depicting 18th and 19th century aristocrats soaking in tubs filled by long-suffering servants. The good news is that modern plumbing has made everything easier, but you can still get the beautiful look of a classic French chateau or English manor house!
Design a traditional, elegant bathroom with crystal lighting.
Changing your bathroom lighting fixtures will get you one step closer to creating an elegant bathroom.
While some design codes don’t allow you to hang fixtures over tubs, you can still incorporate crystal chandeliers in most places throughout a bathroom. Remember to be mindful of scale. Bathrooms are generally smaller than other rooms with low ceilings, so keep lighting size appropriate to the space.
While formal bathrooms look divine with crystals they are not the only design game in town. Gold framed mirrors, silk draperies or even a tufted pouf or seat will add to grandeur to your bathroom.
Here is a little design tip.... Try not to use dark shades on sconces or chandeliers if you need those particular fixtures for applying make-up or shaving. If they are just decorative, go right ahead, they look very chic. Personally there are days when I would rather not see what I look like however how long can I truly fool myself.
1. The Tivoli crystal mini chandelier is elegant for a smaller bathroom but still exudes elegance.
2. Lighting for above the mirror is elevated with the Jessica McClintock bath light.
3. Traditional bathrooms will sparkle with the 3-light wall sconce.
4. Elegant lighting should illuminate elegant mirrors like the cut corner oval wall mirror.
