Lighting from LAMPS PLUS recently popped up on the popular HGTV show "Rate My Space". The show has a cool premise -- fans upload pictures to the website where they rate each others' rooms and submit ideas for possible makeovers.
In last week's episode, Kathy Ireland wall sconces were part of a dining room makeover.
The design team topped them with stylish little clip-on chandelier shades like our Camel with Gold Shimmer shades. We think these sconces really tie the room together!
Read about the makeover and see more photos at lead designer and host Angelo Surmelis' blog. Angelo has used LAMPS PLUS fixtures in previous episodes. Read all about it.

Do your lamp shades look dingy? Here's a slick little product that gets those shades looking new again.
Use it dry to brush away the lint, dust, pet hair and more that lamp shades and chandelier shades collect over time. It also works great on computer screens, furniture, car interiors and more.

One of my favorite design blogs, Elements of Style, recently featured the architecture of Nantucket Island. Some incredible pics! Looks like a wonderful place ... in the summer. In November, not so much.
Scrolling through the gorgeous images I noticed a birdhouse which looked terribly familiar. It's our Three Story New England Traditional Bird House! And it fits in just perfectly with the other charming (full-sized) cottages.
The featured book, Sea Captains' Houses, also looks like an interesting read.

One of our swag style chandeliers was featured in the April issue of Better Homes and Gardens (see the "All About Color" spread on page 24). The pretty green design is one of our custom-printed giclee shades, the Stacy Garcia African Lily Spring.
Swag chandeliers are easy-to-install because they plug into standard wall outlets. Hang it where you like, then run the cord to a wall plug. Voila!

I saw this great tutorial online for creating a curtained headboard with sconces.
It's convenient that the wires are hidden with this solution and, that along with the additional light, you suddenly have all this soft fabric above your bed.
Of course I couldn't help but think about what kind of wall sconces and plug in swing arm wall lamps I would like to try this with. Here are some of my ideas:
BuilderOnline.com has posted an account of lighting designer Randall Whitehead's presention to professional builders at this year's KBIS show. One interesting quote: "What we want to see is soft, gentle lighting...Good lighting is subtle. It doesn’t scream at you." I'd agree! Read more online: KBIS 2009: Lighting Tips for the Pro

Tiffany lamps and lighting fixtures represent a classic American style. Popularized by artist and designer Louis Comfort Tiffany in the late 1890s, these lamps feature brightly colored pieces of opalescent glass.
In the production process, the pattern for the lamp is drawn out and colored glass is cut into the correct shapes. Geometric shapes, flowers, dragonflies and nature are all classic and popular patterns. The glass edges are then cleaned and wrapped with a copper foil. This "copper foil method" helps the glass pieces adhere together when solder is applied.
When you rap your fingers on a Tiffany lamp glass shade, a muffled sound is produced, leading many people to falsely assume that the panels are plastic and not glass. The sound is the result of the copper foil technique and the solder - the same techniques used one-hundred years ago!
