Patrick Paul McLynn is one of the talented painters behind our exclusive art shade patterns. Each of these patterns is hand-painted and requires many hours to complete. Once done they are used as the basis for giclee printed shades and other products. Here's Patrick on his art:
Q: How long have you been painting?
A: Well, really ever since I was a child! I've always loved art and have been professionaly painting for over 40 years.
Q: Do you do all the color mixing yourself?
A: Yes. I love playing with the rainbow of colors available and creating just the right color hue for each piece. A painting may require dozens and dozens of color combinations.
Q: How much work goes into painting each canvas template?
A: It all depends on the subject, style and so on. Some of the more invloved pieces can take up to a week or more. The figurative pieces are much more involved than say an abstract or modern style.
Q: On what products are the painted templates used?
A: The paintings are scanned, then used for a wide range of giclee art shade products; giclee clip-on chandelier lamp shades, pendant chandeliers, table lamps, ceiling medallions...they're constantly adding new products! It's fun to see what they show up on.
Q: What are you working on now?
A: At the moment I'm working on ceiling medallion patterns. The pattern in the photo below is a red corral design that has a coastal-tropical feel. Look for it online soon!
