Designer Candice Olson creates a divine design bedroom space for a couple of world travelling newlyweds. As usual, the result is sophisticated and elegant.
I particularly like the use of crystal in the space to add sparkle. The wooden mantel is accented with crystal sconces, while a vintage looking (but new) crystal chandelier shines above.
The chandelier is, writes Candice, "...in a style in keeping with the vintage flavor of the house, but in polished chrome to add modern flair."
A Candice Olson table lamp and carefully placed recessed lights complete the look.

A decorative fountain makes a wonderful accent for an outdoor living space or patio area. Here are three types of designs to help you add some zen to your great outdoors.
1) Keep it simple with a tabletop fountain. The beautiful ceramic fountain design above also doubles as a flower vase. Come fall and winter, pack it up and move it indoors.
2) Get illuminated with a lighted fountain design. Many of these are solar powered and feature long-lasting LEDs.
3) Short on space? A wall fountain saves precious room on the patio, or use one in the garden to create a new eye-catching focal point.
Sarah M. from San Diego came to us with a question about decorating a small bedroom that also has to function as a home office. We asked Lynda Gould, our in-house design expert, to offer some ideas.
Question: My home is on the smallish side. So I''ve decided to put a desk in the bedroom and use the room as both home office and bedroom. What suggestions do you have that will help with the look and space?
Lynda's Answer: "A neutral color palette with use of textures verses prints and good lighting will help the room to appear bigger. The overall look of continuity, rather then breaking up the space with color and patterns, will give the illusion of more space.
The use of swing arm wall lamps over a night stand will allow for adjustable lighting as well as free up the furniture surfaces to accommodate other items.
On the desk itself, you can use another swing arm light or go with a desk lamp that has a small footprint.
Finally, try using a padded storage ottoman at the foot of the bed. This can hold office items and also serve as extra seating."
Thanks, Lynda! Have a question of your own or a comment on Lynda's answer? Leave a comment to this post and we'll get on it!
Today's the day! The second Sex and the City movie opens today offering the world a mega-dose of fabulous. From clothes and decor to cocktails and more, this movie should be a designer's dream.
We're loving today's post over at Shelterpop. They've grabbed a couple of scenes from the movie and -- using "some exact pieces, some look-a-likes, and a lot -- LOT -- of sparkle" -- they show you how to "get the look." We're thrilled to see some LAMPS PLUS pieces in there (slides 8 and 14).
So, who's headed to the theaters tonight? Did you already catch an early show ... how was it?

LAMPS PLUS friend and Feng Shui expert Shelley Sparks gave us the following tips for using water and outdoor fountains in your garden. Shelley, a licensed Landscape Architect for more than 25 years, began by talking about the importance of water in the garden:
"Using water in the garden is an important Feng Shui principle. Water is traditionally is thought of as the blood of the earth and deeply rooted in the philosophy of balancing an environment. Because of its associations, water can offer harmony, balance, and prosperity to your property and life.
Before you adopt a water feature or fountain be sure you are willing to maintain and care for it. It does require cleaning and replacement of water as it evaporates.
Choose a water feature that reflects your taste or the architecture of your home so that it really fits with you.
If you want to increase the benefits of the fountain, add a light that shines on the water.
One of the best locations for a water feature is near your front entry where it can welcome all of the best luck into your house. Be sure the water pours toward the front door to invite the good luck in."
Good ideas! Have a question for Shelley? Leave a comment and we will get an answer for you!

Our Design Your Own custom lighting tool lets you create totally personalized lighting. You can even create a lamp to match something you already have at home. Want to know how?
One of our copywriters, Andy Alt, used our DYO lighting tool to create a totally unique birthday gift. Andy designed a floor lamp to match the beautiful new Ibanez JEM77 electric guitar to give to it's creator for his birthday: composer and virtuoso guitarist, Steve Vai. The results show how easy it is to create an exact color match between a photograph and a DYO lamp, and we think his method is worth sharing.
Here's Andy on how he created a matching lamp in a matter of minutes:
Step 1: Take a digital photo of the object you want to match. It's important to take a well-lit photo and it's best to not use the flash. After you get your shot, transfer the image from your camera to your computer and open it up to view.
Step 2: Now it's time to match colors. There are many free applications for PC that can help you do this. We like Pixie, and you can download it here: http://download.cnet.com/Pixie/. If you're using an Apple computer, just navigate to Applications --> Utilities --> DigitalColor meter and open up the program.
Step 3: With your color chooser program open, mouse over the image of your object and choose an area of the image that has the color you wish to use. The color program will give you a Red/Green/Blue (RGB) value (see screenshot below). Write these RGB values on a piece of paper -- you will need them in the next step. Repeat these steps recording RGB values for other colors in your image that you also wish to use.
Step 4: Head over to www.lampsplus.com/design-it/ and choose the kind of lamp you wish to create. I think they're all cool but I gave Steve the Brushed Steel Contemporary Floor Lamp.
Step 5: Select a pattern that has the "Edit Colors!" icon on it and choose "Edit Colors in this Pattern." Select the "Advanced" tab at the bottom to customize your colors. You can select custom colors for each color swatch using the RGB values you recorded earlier. Just enter your color combinations under the respective RGB fields and select "OK."
Step 6: Click "Next Step" to select your trim, followed by "Next Step" to finalize your design and "Add to Cart." Check out the "Matching Items" tab to see your design on other products. Now you have a custom design to match your beloved possession! Your custom-made piece will arrive at your doorstep in about a week.
Thanks to Andy for this excellent step-by-step writeup. Now ... What inspires you? Maybe it's your dream car, a sports jersey, a handbag, wall art ... whatever! We'd love to see images of your lighting creation next to the item that inspired it. Post them to our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/lampsplus.
Camilla Meijer is a Swedish born, London-based pattern designer specializing in wallpaper and textiles. Her work has won a number of awards, including the 2007 “New Designers One Year On Award” at the New Designers Show in Islington, London.
We've just added two of her "Anna series" designs for the Lights Up! brand to our lamp shade collection.
Her work brings the outside world indoors and is a beautiful showcase of natural forms like leaves, branches, flowers.
To my eye the shades are gloriously fun and a pop art blast. We're working on getting more of Camilla's product; look for it online soon!
