A Creative Designer Nursery

While dreaming up designer nurseries for clients like Jessica Alba, I follow two rules: be green and be creative! You don't have to stick to traditional pink and blue--it should be about imagination and fun. And it should always be eco-friendly!

Bedroom With a Pop of Orange

A nursery should be whimsical with some elegant touches your child can grow into. Grouping a cluster of framed photos on one wall is the perfect way to personalize a room and introduce your baby to your family, friends and life. Lighting is another great way to add style to a nursery or kid's room.

Animal Inspired Nursery

I love using vintage styles that are colorful and stimulating, like the ones I used in Jessica's nursery for her daughter Honor. I also adore using big silver balls, especially grouped in different sizes. It's both fun and high-end--a must for designer nurseries!

When designing your dream nursery, think about what matters to you. A map ceiling fixture may inspire a future globe-trotter! Or bring back your childhood dreams of being an astronaut with looks inpired by the planets and stars

Faux Animal Prints in a Nuresery

Faux animal prints are fun, add a touch of sophistication and are a great way to give kids an early start to loving animals. Use them on the floor, on the walls, for throws, bedding, anything goes!

Beaded Night Light

And when it comes to color, here's a bright idea--mix it up! There's no reason a girl can't have a blue or green room, or a boy can't have a yellow or even violet room.  I also love painting trees and images of nature on walls.

Silver Dragonfly Lantern String Party Lights

Bring in images of nature from your outdoor adventures with your kids for simple, seasonal decor. Collect pine cones, shells and sand, twigs and leaves, and arrange them in a great vase or kid-friendly dish.  Kids area rugs will add warmth and help tie all the crazy colors of books, toys and stuffed animals together!

Aerial Crib from Nurseryworks

Just remember, designer nurseries aren't complete without eco-friendly products. Nurseryworks is where I found Jessica Alba's Aerial Crib and changing table. They use formadehyde-free wood and zero-VOC (volatile organic compound) paint, eliminating toxic chemicals near your most precious bundle. I also found wonderful organic linens for her through Sage Creek

And Mrs. Meyers bath and cleaning products are always on my must-have list. They smell great, are earth-friendly, and safe for you, your children and your pets!
