Using fall colors in home decor is not about plopping a few orange placemats on a table surrounded by ceramic squirrel figurines and hope you have captured the essence of Captain John Smith (or any meaningful Colonial Style). Fall colors can be a wonderful design element throughout the year in any home and within any style.
I like to think that fall colors can be a subtle reminder of fun fall traditions like apple picking, hay rides and fresh cider. A pale orange sofa and mellow yellow wingback chairs need not look too fall-centric if that’s your fear. The warm tones are perfect in fall but I think coupled with simple walls and the old world chandelier it becomes a welcoming traditional room.

Obviously tangerine is a hot color this year, and in becoming the darling of the design world it is not considered kitschy. Fall colors when placed in a modern setting like this room simply look fresh, clean and modern. One great thing about using saturated colors like this in a contemporary room is that it warms up what could be easily become stark. Ceramic table lamps in a contrasting color or even mid-century lighting fixtures will also help warm up the fall feel in a modern space.
Safavieh Blossom Collection Area Rug
This fall-inspired rug is a show stopper. It’s not only a more budget-friendly alternative to expensive Oriental carpets, but pulls in fall colors and adds interest to rooms that have monochromatic furniture. The pattern adds movement like the expensive version in the room image. Notice how they have monochromatic furniture? Works beautifully.
So remember, fall colors can be chic all year, add warmth to your home decor regardless of style, and evoke feelings of happy autumn pleasures.
