After falling out of favor for over at least two decades since the '70s and '80s, brass lighting in the kitchen has made a comeback over the last few years. While mid-century lighting styles have been going strong in the living room (who hasn't craved a sputnik chandelier in this millennium?), the metal has just recently been making its way into other rooms. Brass pendants, and more recently, brass faucets and drawer pulls, have been accenting cooking spaces all over the Internet. Here are five shiny standouts.
Pasadena-based interior designer Tamara Kaye Honey of House of Honey debuted this killer kitchen last year as a Traditional Home NewTrad winner. The black cabinetry, dark wood flooring, and white subway tile with black grout is right on trend, along with the trio of brass mini pendant lights for the kitchen island area and the brass lamps with luxury styling on the bookshelf.
French designer Jean- Louis Deoit goes glam in the kitchen of his Parisian flat with gorgeous gilded cabinets, which are tempered by the classic marble backsplash and counter. The brass chandelier adds an 'art deco meets mid-century' twist.
In this Scandinavian kitchen spotted in Skona Hem, Nordic simplicity gets ratcheted up with brass detailing and rich color. A pair of low hanging brass pendants, plus two brass canisters and a brass paper towel holder, are lustrous with the emerald cabinetry.
This classic white kitchen featured in Better Homes & Gardens takes an unexpected turn with the addition of brass hardware on the drawers and and trim. The fanciful light fixture, with its Art Nouveau detailing, adds a vintage vibe.
Believe it or not, Kristin Jackson, interior designer and blogger behind The Hunted Interior, made the brass pendant that hangs in her very cute kitchen. In a moment of DIY inspiration, Jackson turned a brass bowl spotted at Goodwill into the centerpiece of her black and white sink area. Genius, right? What a unique way to add brass lighting in the kitchen.
