Although we are starting to begin the summer wind-down, it’s not too late to create a decked-out deck design. Enjoying your home both inside and out is one of life’s treats, and making sure both match your needs and style is important.
I love this deck/outdoor kitchen because it’s compact yet packs a real punch. I’m not saying you need to install a full-on kitchen, but it’s nice to be able to cook and socialize with guests during the summer months.
Most bases are covered in this deck, from functional cooking elements and stylish outdoor seating to lighting. I like how there is task lighting for cooking, safety (along the steps) and decorative and functional landscape lighting (washing the plants).
This lighting is layered and allows you to maximize the space after dark. I can’t see the overall extent of seating, but I would also include outdoor wooden benches to match the chairs and a table for dining.
Call me exacting, but a truly decked-out deck design would include decorative water fountains for home and garden. I love the sound of trickling water outside and not only is it soothing, it can also mask unwanted noises like traffic.
So, although there are only a few more weeks of summer, make the most of it with the best deck yet!
1. The Bayport Dark Sky-Rated Outdoor Wall Light is ideal to illuminate the deck on a traditional home.
2. Go bold and add soft seating on your deck with this wasabi Green Chevron Stripe Outdoor Pouf.
3. Match the wall light above with it’s matching Dark Sky-Rated Outdoor Post Light. This might be just perfect at the junction where your deck and stairs meet.
4. I like the simple design of the Benton Outdoor Stacking Chair in natural Eucalyptus. Great for dining or casual lounging.
5. This Natural Acacia 2-Person Glider Bench is ideal for relaxing outdoors on a deck or porch. Nobody likes to admit they love what seemingly appears to be for the older generation, but they should.
6. Nothing is more relaxing outside than the sound of water and this Orbital Pedestal Floor Fountain with LED Light is a modern way to add soothing sounds and a contemporary focal point.

Sometimes a room needs a more minimal style light than a chandelier or large over the top fixture to light it. Enter pendant lights. They can be minimal in size and style but not in details or charm - and the right one can make your room feel completely different.
Though I only have one pendant light in my home currently, I am definitely a fan, and today I am talking about a few show-stopping styles of pendant lighting.
Let's start with copper.
Copper touches in any room are all the rage right now - and adding copper with your lighting is easy with the Essex Copper Pendant. I love how this looks doubled above a table.
And another favorite metal - I am a huge fan of polished metal - especially in gold and Silver and this Emery Silver Finish Mini Pendant is a stunner.
Perfect placed in threes above a bar area - the polished finish on this light will bring a beautiful vintage inspired charm to your room.
What about something more unique? Alabaster reminds me of some of the gorgeous vintage pieces that I remember seeing in my grandmothers home growing up.
But this Jamie Young Borealis Pendant Light is far from a dated vintage style. Made from alabaster, it has modern lines and details and is sure to give off a soft glow. It would be a beautiful addition to both edgy modern and traditional styles.
Another unique twist on a pendant light is this amazing Bolivar Rope and Metal Pendant. It is perfect for adding a neutral look in lighting to your space and gives off a slightly vintage coastal vibe.
And for something that makes a bold beautiful statement while lighting up your space - the Austen Pendant Light is a gorgeous choice.
With details galore creating a delicate openwork wave pattern - it is stunning. And with a drum shade to softly diffuse the light - this pendant will stand out in your home while lighting it beautifully.
Whatever style of pendant lighting that you fall in love with, there are so many different sizes and options to choose from to fit your space perfectly at Lamps Plus

The ideal outdoor living room begins with space planning and the needs of your family. Enclosed patios adjacent to your house would be ideal, but as long as you have some form of patio or decking you will be in good shape.
The outdoor living room above does a good job in showing how to place your furniture to encourage conversation and fun. Functional elements like stylish outdoor wall lights or a damp-rated ceiling fan will allow guests to stay when the temperature rises and once the sun has set.
If you have exterior outlets you may want to consider bringing out floor lamps made for the outdoors or outdoor table lamps to truly create an unexpected living space atmosphere in your very own backyard.
Lighting aside, make sure your furniture is comfortable so guests want to stay. Colorful cushions and decorative outdoor pillows will accomplish that.
One final designer trick is to always use a glazed garden seat in an outdoor room. Not only are they easy to wipe off and move around, but they become a small table if need be, or an extra seat when the party really gets started.
1. Create an instant outdoor living room with this ash gray wood 4-piece set of outdoor furniture, like the Bradbury Outdoor Conversation Set.
2. Outdoor lighting is critical to creating an elegant exterior. This black outdoor wall light sports an updated version of a Crafstman classic.
3. The Bronte Zinc Indoor/Outdoor Table Lamp by Robert Abbey is timeless in its classic shape and design.
4. If you are looking for an ideal and versatile piece of furniture think about this Earthenware Accent Table in Acid Black. It’s both seating and a table.
5. I love the indoor look of the Phoebe Al Fresco Outdoor Floor Lamp by Robert Abbey.
Summer entertaining does not require vast lawns and decks. Designing small outdoor spaces thoughtfully can result in fantastic and functional outdoor rooms that will keep you and your guests al fresco for hours.
This cute terrace has everything you need to entertain in style and at a fraction of the space most people have. I think going vertical helps. Taller, comfortable bar stools allow for seating but take up less square footage and a tall pub table is just enough surface space for dining.
One thing to remember, if your only seating is a stool, cushions will help keep guests comfortable for longer stretches of time.
Lush foliage keeps the space interesting, enveloping and can hide adjacent buildings, homes or fencing. As there is no roof, string lights (also known as party lights) illuminate the patio and keeps it festive. If you have the room, I would personally add outdoor wall lights for added atmosphere.
1. If you want to create an instant party vibe or if you rent a place without exterior lights, I like using the Aspen Indoor-Outdoor String Lights.
2. I’m crazy about this double box designed Bronze Outdoor Light by Possini. The design is current and looks more substantial without taking up a lot of surface space.
3. The Zuo Modern Anguilla Aluminum Outdoor Barstool is perfect for small outdoor spaces. I always say go armless if you really don’t have the room.
4. I like the simplicity of the Anguilla Outdoor Square Pub Table which has a low maintenance finish and is great in tight spaces.
5. The Riverstone Falls Floor Fountain will create a soothing trickling sound that is perfect for creating serenity while outdoors.
Do you think a lamp can make or break a space?
Can the wrong lamp take away from your room - while the right lamp can completely finish it perfectly?
And let's be honest - choosing the right lamp for your space is not always easy.
With so many options for color, size, style, finish, shades, etc. it can be overwhelming.
So it helps to tackle the search for the perfect lamp with a few considerations.
The first thing to consider when choosing lamps for your home is the style. Floor lamps, buffet, table lamps, desk lighting, chandeliers and more.
With all the different sizes, heights and styles - you want to consider which one is right for your space in order to narrow down the choices.
And after that it is all about the color, shape, and overall look.
Do you want your lighting to stand out in your room and make a statement? Or would you prefer it to blend in seamlessly and fit the room like a glove?
I tend to gravitate towards lamps that have a style all their on their own, but that also don't 'stand out' too much in a room. I really do like a cohesive feeling to a space.
So, today I am exploring a few options for simple, elegant lamps that can go in a room and quietly speak volumes without saying a word.
Up first - sleek and refined - this Possini Euro Design Slim Gourd Lamp is a winner.
Easily at home in modern or traditional settings - the smooth design and style is easy to live with.
Looking for something with a baroque twist and quiet clean lines? This Baroque Clear Acrylic Table Lamp is a knockout.
It will fit in with so many different styles in a room because it has a quiet presence with the clear look, and yet it is definitely elegant, classic, and a glam statement maker.
A definite favorite when it comes to elegant, glamorous style - this Lynton Table Lamp in cream speaks my language on several levels.
The creamy white finish is simple and charming, while the gold accents add an elegant touch that makes this lamp at home in any setting.
And one more, just because I am in love with gold and white for any room - this Simone Gold Faux Croc Lamp is sure to add an elegant look to your room.
No matter what your favorite look and style for lamps is - there are so many options for color, style and size at Lamps Plus.
And whether you are choosing one that is bold and beautiful in design to make a statement - or one that blends in perfectly with the rest of your surroundings -your perfect lamp is out there.

I couldn't help but work a pun into the title of this post because we have never had so many cool and unique ceiling fan options as we do in this day and age.
Long gone are the boring, grandma ceiling fans, and here to stay are the days of highly designed and multi-functional ceiling fans that actually add to the design of a room rather than hinder it.
Whether you want a more modern, minimal look, or you really want your ceiling fan to become a focal point in the space, stylish ceiling fans are a must to keep you cool this summer.
The Delano Ceiling Fan in a driftwood finish from Minka Aire is a transitional ceiling fan that can suit varying design styles. The soft, yet rustic, driftwood finish is a cool take on the traditional faux wood finishes that ceiling fans are famous for.
When you mix soft and hard materials with exposed hardware, you are certain to create a cool ceiling fan that any designer would be proud to install.
This canvas and oil rubbed bronze ceiling fan can be installed either indoors or outdoors to bring major style and a nice breeze to your space.
Anyone who is in a remodeled warehouse loft might not have the best AC supply. An antique bronze cage ceiling fan that also features a small LED light is the perfect fan to add to your industrial modern interior.
The vintage look and industrial finish will turn your need for some air circulation into a beautiful focal point.
The candelabra-style Deville Ceiling Fan from Casa Vieja is dainty, detailed and hands down beautiful. A shabby chic style home deserves a beautiful, antique accent that is equal parts form and function.
The modern, minimal lines of this contemporary ceiling fan in a brushed nickel finish are so clean that you may not even know its there while it providing you with a cool breeze.
If you are looking for a fan to compliment your streamlined interiors, this modern fixture is too cool to pass up.
From Shabby Chic style to streamlined and minimal there is a stylish ceiling fan option to fit your decor. Which is your favorite?

What better way to spend the early evening hours than in an outdoor oasis in your own home. And just how to create that perfect backyard design?
Well, you need a few key elements that will transform any space into a magical getaway that is as much vacation-worthy as it is practical for every day.
A chair, sofa or comfortable chaise lounge that you can flop down on is of the utmost importance. Being able to stay put and stay comfortable through the dusk hours and into the evening means extra hours can be spent outside without having to relocate.
In order to do this, make sure you also have an outdoor accent table and possibly storage furniture for your outdoor accents like a throw blanket or extra pillow.
Throw blankets or decorative outdoor pillows or whatever you think you might need to keep you comfortable and cozy is essential for the perfect outdoor oasis.
Keep them at hand or close by so you never have to remember you're just in your own backyard.
Silence can be deafening, so a little bit of subtle white noise can be just the thing to allow you to escape the daily grind in your own backyard.
A decorative patio wall fountain brings in a gorgeous style element and adds the right amount of white noise to drown out any traffic, phone, or neighbor noises that are definitely not welcome in your private oasis.

Did you know that I am a huge fan of rustic chic in a room?
That piece that looks like it is 100 years old or that it once had a different purpose than it is being used for now just brings a huge amount of charm into an otherwise ordinary space.
For example - an old farmhouse bench that becomes a lightly shabby, and yet chic, coffee table or an old work bench in the barn that was turned into a vanity in the bathroom.
We have a rustic vanity in our guest cottage bathroom. It started out as a sideboard found at a yard sale for about $15. It was missing a door and needed a lot of work - but when I saw it, I knew it would be a delightful and charming vanity.
But you don't have to wait to find the perfect vintage piece to get that rustic chic look today - there are a ton of beautiful brand new, yet classic and rustic, style bathroom vanities available. And today, I am sharing the top 5 favorites that say a big 'yes, please' to that irresistible rustic chic charm.
This beautiful open shelving clean-lined Elizabeth Vanity in Sapphire Gray takes the cake for being vintage, modern, rustic, and oh so chic all in one.
Details to Note: One of my favorite things about this is the amount of storage it offers while staying simple and clean in the way it looks. A perfect addition to a bathroom where you need storage, but also want something that isn't too big and bulky visually to do the job.
I am in love with the unique details this Crosett Cayhill Vanity has. Those drawer pulls, that creamy white top and the rustic wood look that it has? Well, it is pretty much perfection for those looking for a more vintage and rustic looking piece that functions like a brand new one.
Details to note: A weathered plank look makes this piece look like it is 100 years old.
Looking for something a little more elegant with a French Country look? The Avanity Kelly Vanity with a Carrara marble top and undermount sink has the perfect mix of rustic charm, detailing, and simple elegance.
Details to note: I love the soft color and finish - the marble top and the carved details that remind me of an antique piece of furniture.
Maybe something that is more on the simple side - the Emerson Distressed Black Vanity from Cuomo might be perfect. With classic and simple lines - it will fit perfectly in a vintage house or a brand new home.
Details to note: Clean lines and minimal hardware make this a winner for any style bathroom.
Looking for something that looks like it once began as a piece of furniture and is now a stylish vanity? The Elizabeth Vanity in an espresso finish is perfect. With a style and design that looks like a piece of furniture but with the functionality of a sink - it packs a lot of power and charm in the design.
Details to note: Those turned legs and stacks of drawers makes this piece look like an heirloom chest of drawers that you re-purposed.
No matter what color, style or size vanity you are looking for - getting that chic, charming look with a little bit of a rustic twist is easy with these bathroom vanities that are full of style at Lamps Plus.
