wall plate is a bit chunky

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I purchased two of these to use as over the bed lights. They are larger than the pencil type lights sometimes over beds in the hotels. They are nice and provide good illumination however the wall plate is very thick and not at all subtle which came as a suprise to us. Also one of the lights was missing a light bulb. My electrician installed these, he was in the house doing something else. I thought that they would not require a direct plug in source but they do The electrician was able to change that for us.
