We bought this bulb for our son's new bedroom lamp. It works pretty much like an incandescent 3-way bulb. There is a very slight delay when you first turn it on. We purchased it to try out the 3-way feature and part of our effort to convert most of our household bulbs to CFL. We have already noticed a difference in our electric bill. We don't yet know about the longevity of the bulb as we've only had it for a few weeks.

Love the light it gives and that I might save money on the electric bill. The only negative is that it's a 3-way bulb and the 3rd way is no brighter than the 2nd way.
