If ordering a remote receiver to fit in the hub, talk to someone at the company to make sure they send you the deeper hub. This part isn't listed as an option but is required if you want to make the hub fit the mount with the receiver in place. I couldn't even find it listed in the catalog. Thankfully, the second time I contacted the support group someone knew what I was talking about and promptly sent the correct part in a separate order. Other than that, the instructions were redundant in places and wrong for wiring in other places. Eventually I figured it out but it looks like the original manual may have been written for Europe or another country with extra pages for US wiring sent as a supplement. Both the remote and wall unit worked perfectly the first time I used them. Due to the weight, it is also difficult to connect the hub to the ceiling fixture without a second person helping but I finally made it connect with the mounting screws by myself.

Need Ad Text Re-written

The ad text is incorrect - the actual fan has an illuminated housing - it does not have any up light properties. The actual ad text says "a decorative up-light above the fan motor" and "Includes four 20 watt candelabra bulbs for upper light kit" is not correct - the unit has 4 7W bulbs that illuminate the inside of the housing. Will add additional comments once the unit is installed.

The guys said definitely do NOT drink until after you install it. It's a bit on the heavy side and goes much more smoothly with a second person and tall ladder. They cut quite a bit of the wiring off to make it all fit into the housing. We flush mounted it and it doesn't wobble. I have an ole 1925 house with plaster ceilings and it is snug and secure against the ceiling, despite the weight. My dining room isn't all that big, and the lighting is fine. My only real complaint is that for some reason, when i ordered it, the way it was described, i felt i needed the separate remote control in order to operate the lights and fan which isn't true. I just operate from the wall switch, and everything is fine. Plus, the remote thing doesn't fit into the housing with all the wires. My ceilings are about 9-10 ft. , so i just use the 2 drop down cords for the light and fan operations. So, I'll return the remote. Note that I ordered this 2 yrs. ago, just got it up (go figure), so maybe with the newer models you do need the remote. Just a word of caution. Otherwise i love it. Blends well, looks like its been here forever, and elegant, but not overstated.

Replaced an older fan in my den. The Costa Del Sol is a much better fan than the one I replaced. It looks great, and there is not even a trace of a wobble. This fan provides the most light of any of the fans I evaluated. My older fan had four 60 watt bulbs though, while the new one is limited to four 40 watt bulbs. I understand that this is the new law, but the light in the room is much dimmer than it was before. I must now supplement it with other lamps. I have put up several fans and am a pretty handy do-it-yourselfer, but putting up this fan was a little challenging. The wiring directions options did not match my wiring... which surprised me because I live in a relatively new house. I kind of made some logical guesses and the connection worked out though. Additionally, the fan housing is heavy and the mounting is a little awkward as it requires you to tuck in the wires, lift it, and try to turn the screws (other fans have a more efficient way of attaching to the ceiling). Be sure you have a tall ladder, with some extra support. Also, there are a lot of wires to tuck in, with little space, when attaching the light kit, so putting in the screws can be a challenge. Other than those issues, installation was easy. Overall, now that its up, I love the fan. I own three Casa Vieja fans and all look great and work flawlessly. I highly recommend the Costa del Sol.
