My house was built in the 70's (ranch style) and had the traditional drop ceiling in the kitchen. You know those ugly grid things with the discolored yellow diffusers that are hard to clean. Wanted something that matched my stainless refrigerator/stove. I added two of these fixtures because the space was approx. 4'wide 10' length. I actually offset them 2' from the sides because they looked to close together from the center line. They fit perfect because the actual height of these fixtures are 12" not 13" the reason I know this is because my drop ceiling is 12" and I was afraid they would protrude an inch below the sightline but they don't. Very stylish,modern and clean look! I will probably put them on a dimmer. I painted the ceiling a warm golden color(satin) and left the sides of the drop ceiling white. As an interior designer I never use gloss paint it looks cheap! Kathleen

This is a great light! I used the larger version in our family room with a dimmer and LOVE it! We used the smaller version for the hallway. Wanted to update the 60's ranch and love our new light additions. The lights make such a difference and update the entire area.
