We saw a floor model and like the looks of the lamp. They were not in stock and ordered two. They were assembled at the store. When we got home with them, we discovered a bent shade frame and a poor fitting shade that could not be fixed. The store ordered 4 more. The store assembled them. When we inspected, all 4 were defective. One had a bent shade frame, and 3 had dark spots on the mica and 2 also had poor fitting shades. That's 6 out of 6 that were defective

I use this lamp next to my chair in the family room. Mostly I use it to read and it is perfect for casting enough light to see a book but not too much to disturb others watching TV.
The only negative is that the on/off switch is located at floor level and often gets turned upside down. Therefore you must bend down and turn it off by hand. It would be nice to also have a switch near the light itself.

I LOVE THE COLOR OF THE SHADE AND ITS ADJUSTABLE POSITIONS. THIS IS A GREAT LAMP WHICH HELPS MY DAUGHTER READ IN BED AND DO HER HOMEWORK. IT GOES BEAUTIFULLY WITH THE DECOR OF HER BEDROOM.

I bought this for a lamp to light a piano for reading music….for this purpose it works extremely well. The included bulb is very bright for reading and then the lamp can be adjusted down for the rest of the room as the direct light is VERY bright. Turned away, however, the mica shade casts a soft light when pointed away from the room. Also not a bad looking lamp - not the MOST stylish but for its purpose it works wonderfully. Practical and nice looking when not in use.

We needed a light for using our computer but have a small area. With a printer and computer no room for a lamp voila! This sits alongside the desk and lights up the desk just right. It has a small base too so doesn't take up floor room either. You can adjust the height and the tilt of the shade so it can be flexible in use. If we don't need it for the desk someday, it would be a good lamp by a chair for readin. Love the look of it too, looks sort of 1930's.

We were shopping for new reading lamps to replace the ones we've had for years. After reading the reviews on this item, we ordered two. And we are not disappointed. They fit our decor perfectly (mission style), and the illumination it gives off is good for reading. They were much heavier than we thought they would be, actually quite sturdy. The shade gives the lamp a soft glow; adds a warm ambiance to the room.

Great looking lamp that looks perfect in my husband's den - sturdy, stable, and "masculine." Good value for the money. Assembly was easy. Despite the product description, the shade doesn't appear to be real mica; however, it does resemble mica, especially when illuminated. The dark color shade adds nice soft mood lighting to the rest of the room while still shedding bright light on reading material. I do wish the shade mechanism rotated a full 360 degrees so I could focus the light in even more directions, but that's a minor objection. Also, it would be easier to turn on and off when you're sitting in the chair if the on/off switch were up near the top instead of down on the floor on the cord itself (cord floor switches are great for Christmas tree lights but not so much for reading lamps!). Overall we're happy with it.

Hi TX and MT - thanks for your comments. This floor lamp does have a natural mica material shade. The mica is applied to a thin layer of styrene that helps protect it and helps diffuse the light. This floor lamp is attactive, and when lit the light is beautiful. But the bulb shines right in your eyes and cannot be tilted away, due to the edge of the shade getting caught on the piece that holds it.

Wrong bulb for lamp style

I love these lamps visually (I have 2) but I have rebuilt them to use different bulbs. The eco-friendly bulbs are a good idea, but they are too bright and too large -- becuase of its size, a portion of the bulb is very low in the shade. As a result, the lamp lights the whole room and is hard on anyone else in the room that looks toward the lamp. I have rebuilt mine -- one has a tube lamp tucked farther up into the shade, while the other has a pair of small halogens. This makes them perfect for me, but it is not a project for the faint of heart.

Looks great in the room. Great for reading. Especially beautiful when lit.
I sometimes have to tilt the shade away from others when they say it it too bright from across the room, but the lamp shade adjusts easily, so it's not really much of a problem. I used an appropriate bulb, but might consider replacing with lower wattage bulb to reduce number of complaints.

I purchased this to use for reading next to my bed. It works fairly well for this purpose. I like the look of it, the warm color of the shade, and that you can swivel the top back and forth. The only thing I don't like is that you have to turn it on and off at the cord which is on the floor, and so I have to lean waaayyyy over to the floor from the bed to turn it off. It would have been a better design to put a little pull chain up at the top to turn it off up there. Other than that, it's a nice lamp, and looks pretty with my dark wood bed.
