Bottom Line:

Bought two of these to use chairside in the family room. They are sturdy, and only a little wobbly at full extension. Note this lamp's measurements carefully. This is a petite lamp. Mine measures 48.5 to the finial top at full extension. BUT the light ends up at 42" -- under 4' -- and that's as high as she goes. This was lower than I'd hoped but I could have and should have extrapolated from the measurements given. It is a heavy lamp, and solid, which most lamps aren't nowadays. I think I like mine, but my husband hated his -- too low -- and it has been relegated to a guest room. Jury is still out on the nut that tightens to hold the light's neck in place. Mine has slipped once or twice, and I hope it doesn't give in with time because that would render the lamp truly useless. It is all metal, so the shade gets hot -- to be expected -- and the on-off switch gets warm but still useable. It's better than plastic. For my purposes, this is an average lamp but I'm giving it 4 stars because it is solid and, I think, well made. Just be sure you know what you are getting. The metal shade gives off a lot of heat. I am going to invest in one of those super-expensive cool bulbs like an OTT bulb or something, and see if that helps.
