Our new sofa table is much larger than our old one, so we needed a table lamp that would really use up the space, yet give us lighting close to the seats. This lamp is perfect for that. It has clean lines, and a handy switch at the base so you don't need to hunt for the switch under the lamp shade. The styrofoam packaging really is awful. It falls apart into litte tiny pieces so you'll want to unpack it outside... Setting it up was very easy. Loving the new lamp!

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This lamp is far larger than a normal "reading" lamp. I didn't pay attention to the dimensions and it is simply too big to use as a bed-side lamp, which was my intention. Pay attention to the measurements. But the most problematic thing about this lamp was the packaging. This is made in China and it had the most ridiculous styrofoam I have ever seen. The lamp was packed tightly, but when you pulled on the styrofoam, it just came apart in your hands. It was difficult to get the lamp out of the box because the whole thing just shredded in my hands. I ended up with little electrostatic pieces of foam all over. It was ridiculous. I think the U.S. manufacturer has an obligation to make sure their factories in China are using appropriate material. I kept thinking about various toxins that were causing the foam to split apart.
