We used these lamps for soft lighting in a backyard patio area - replacing a blinding flood light. We used the companion wall-mount lamp by the back door and the post-mount lamps at intervals along the patio. We cut the 84" accessory posts in half, then anchored them in cement 18" into the ground to achieve more of a path lighting effect. The 60 watt capacity bulbs, with the light downwardly directed is easy on the eyes and provides better pathway/area lighting than the typical lower watt pathway lights. (Of course better illumination of the entire area would be achieved with higher post mounting.) It is so pleasant to sit outside and enjoy the evening with friends in the soft light.

These lights (I now have 5 including two wall mount) are great quality, easy to install, attractively plain (especially when lit) and do just what they are supposed to do - direct the light down without "polluting" the night sky.

We installed a wall-mount light on each side of our garden house door on a natural stone wall. Light is soft to the eye, no upward trespass, and reveals stonework beautifully with warm downward lighting pattern to entry area and walkway! I liked them so much I bought another pair.

I installed matching post light and house lights. the style is simple and coordinates nicely with my 60s ranch. I liked the idea that it is night sky friendly. The lamps were very affordable yet still had style; much better than the inexpensive builder grade for just a little more. I found it very bright with a normal incandescent bulb so I found a round bulb that didn't protrude as far below the shade of the lamp for a cleaner look.

Great Light for our Boat Dock!
By Nauteal Verified Purchaser from Greensboro, NC on 5/14/2010
Pros:
Easy To Change Bulb, Area Of Illumination, Attractive Design
Best Uses:
Back Yard, Porch, Walkway, Gardens

The lamp is rated for a 60 watt bulb, I found a 40 watt bulb to be plenty of light in our boat dock situation. Since the lamp is open to the bottom, I recommend using a Shatter Resistant Bulb to limit the possibility of weather from effecting the bulb.
