Excellent from limited distance -- as you get closer, you see slight warps in the shade. We had to add a cover at the top since alot of light reflected up towards the ceiling and we wanted to direct it to the pool table.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We purchased this light for our dining room. The fluorescent lights are terrible! And it cannot be dimmed. The light should only be used in an office conference room. It is nice looking, but the illumination is too harsh for a dining table.
