As can be seen from the picture, the lamp is actually quite compact and doesn't take much space at all if the oversize shade isn't used. It's then only 57 inches from the floor to the top of the A21 bulbs. The two-inch diameter steel cylindrical pole is very strong. I am using it with four 100 W equivalent 15 watt electrical daylight spectrum LED A21 bulbs with standard sockets. The light from an LED bulb doesn't come from a small blinding incandescent filament and is diffuse enough so that no shade is needed, at least for me. Not using the shade makes the room illumination about twice as bright and makes the illumination much whiter when using daylight spectrum bulbs. The base is wide and heavy. One has to tip the lamp to about thirty degrees from the vertical before it will tip over. I have had one of these lamps for about four years and the brushed steel finish is still shiny and completely unblemished.Images/Videos shared by: lux amans
The size of this lamp, and the amount of light it can put out, makes it a dramatic statement in a room. I knew it would be larger than other lamps that I looked at. I bought two, and when they arrived it was a bit of a shocker. Look at the dimensions and measure it out before you buy. Fortunately, the large size was perfect for my room. It is a light blaster in that there are four compact flourescent bulbs, but you can use any number of them at a twist of the switch. I only need accent lighting, so one is enough. I can also put smaller bulbs in. The bulbs are all on one level, so the light is focused in the middle of the shade - it would have been better design to have the bulbs vertically placed, but the shade works well in dispersing the light anyway. Sturdy and not easy to knock over. Due to large size, best in a large space.
