The strength of the lamp support rests on a cheap pot metal pedestal between the base and the column portion. It fractured on first assembly with hand tightening of the column sections, making the lamp useless. The manufacture of the pedestal is defective.

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

We just set up 2 of these in our new living room, & they are beautiful. Wonderful quality & very stylish. The base is *very* heavy; the lamps seem very sturdy. The verbiage says they accommodate 2 60W bulbs each, but ours say they are specially fitted for energy-efficient bulbs (CFLs?) up to 100W. We like the standard 100W bulb light/illumination better than the CFLs (we did one of each, to compare). Very pleased!
