The fountain is smaller than I thought, and I also thought the rocks were arrangable (they're glued in place). The motor is loud on the middle and high setting, so I keep it at the lowest setting, which means not much water circulates, and I wasn't hearing much sound. So... I've added (shoved between the rocks) a few shells and this allows the water to splash a bit, rather than dribble down the sides noiselessly. I sit about 6 ft away from it and I only hear the gently splashing water, not the motor. Although the base is plastic, it is finished off nicely with a thin border of tiny rocks. The assembly instructions are poorly written, but are not really necessary. I have looked at many fountains, and this seems to be one of the best, once you adjust the water drip to achieve your sound preference.

At christmas I use it with a christmas village,in the fall with leaves and dried flowers. Sping and summer with folage or flowers fresh or fake. I can always put a new idea around it or let it stand alone. For my tiny apartment it gives me great pleasure to see and hear the running water. My cat drinks out of it too.
i love this fountain except i bought it for my massage room and the motor is very loud. it would be great for anyother room.
