A &#8220;fitter&#8221; is the component that a lamp shade uses to attach it to the lamp body. There are three types of lamp fitters:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Spider fitters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UNO fitters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clip-on fitters<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"244\" height=\"118\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lampsplus.com\/ideas-and-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Spider-With-Harp-Lamp-Shade.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-347\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>1. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lampsplus.com\/products\/lamp-shades\/fitter_spider\/\">Spider Fitters with Harp<\/a><\/strong><br>This is the most common type of fitter for table and floor lamp shades. (Bonus: at Lamps Plus, we include it free with each purchase.)<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"120\" height=\"115\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lampsplus.com\/ideas-and-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Uno-Lamp-Shade-Fitter.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-348\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>2. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lampsplus.com\/products\/lamp-shades\/fitter_uno\/\">Uno Shade Fitters<\/a><\/strong><br>You will typically find this fitter on smaller table lamps. Because the shade attaches directly to the socket by using a permanently installed wire, no harp is needed. (Note: This type of shade is usually built into the design of the lamp and is not always easily replaceable.)<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"120\" height=\"115\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lampsplus.com\/ideas-and-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Clip-On-Lamp-Shade-Fitter-Picture.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-349\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>3. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lampsplus.com\/products\/lamp-shades\/fitter_clip-on-@-chandelier\/\">Clip-On Shade Fitters<\/a><\/strong><br>These fitters are usually paired with smaller accent lamps and chandeliers. As the name suggests, they clip directly onto the light bulb with no additional hardware. And, there are also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lampsplus.com\/products\/lamp-shades\/fitter_clip-on-@-table-lamp\/\">large clip-on shades<\/a> for table or floor lamps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">But Will My Shade Look Right?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see, measuring for a new shade is fairly straightforward. And since many lamps or fixtures look great with any number of shade shapes and styles, you don\u2019t necessarily need to buy a new shade that\u2019s exactly like the one you\u2019re replacing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So how do you know if your shade will match? Here are a few style tips to help you know if your new shade will blend in or stick out like sore thumb:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Right Height:<\/strong> In most cases, your lamp shade should be roughly one-third the height of the lamp body. For some tall and modern lamp designs, the shade may be up to one-half the height.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Perfect Profile:<\/strong> Similarly, many design experts suggest that shade&#8217;s width be roughly equivalent to the visible height of the lamp base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t Slim Down Too Much:<\/strong> Make sure the lamp shade is wider than the widest part of your lamp body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Great Shape:<\/strong> Your shade should usually mirror the shape and contour of your lamp design. Straight, angular, or square lamps look best with square or rectangular shades.
