Place the base on a stable area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For larger fountains, do not place outdoor fountains on loose soil or mulched beds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Instead, use patio stones, hard-packed pea gravel, or sand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Position the pump in the fountain basin or bowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Fill the bowl or reservoir with water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Never let the water run dry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A fountain without enough water will cause the pump to overheat and fail.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>4. Too much splash<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Adjust the pump intake-control valve to reduce the amount of the water flow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Not enough water flow<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check that the pump is fully emerged in the water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure you have enough water to fill the bottom basin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, adjust the flow of the valve to achieve the desired water flow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Noisy water pump<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check that the pump is fully submerged in the water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure the pump is not vibrating against the side or bottom of the basin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Secure all connections to prevent air from escaping and causing noise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tips on How to Clean a Fountain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To keep your fountain looking and running it&#8217;s best, we recommend cleaning it every two to three months, or whenever the water looks dirty. Cleaning is pretty simple, just keep a few tips in mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Drain the water and remove leaves or other debris to avoid clogging hoses, filters, and pumps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Use a soft rag to wipe down the fountain with specific fountain cleaning products, such as scale and stain water treatments, and water algaecide and clarifiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Avoid abrasive household cleaners as well as pool and spa chemicals or cleaners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Harsh cleaners can damage finishes and are not safe for animals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chlorine bleach, in particular, is not recommended. It is corrosive to the pump and fades fountain finishes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Add fresh water and a water treatment product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you live in a hot climate, you may notice that the water turns green with&nbsp;scale or&nbsp; mold. To control this, just add a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lampsplus.com\/products\/protec-8oz-fountain-and-statuary-scale-stain-water-treatment__k6315.html\">fountain water treatment<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure to choose a product that&#8217;s safe for birds, wildlife, and household pets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"355\" height=\"411\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lampsplus.com\/ideas-and-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/winter-fountain.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3344\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lampsplus.com\/ideas-and-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/winter-fountain.jpg 355w, https:\/\/www.lampsplus.com\/ideas-and-advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/winter-fountain-259x300.jpg 259w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 355px) 100vw, 355px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;Fountain Winterizing Tips<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Winter can be harsh on outdoor fountains. Cold and freezing water can damage hoses, the pump, and the finish of the fountain itself. So, if at all possible, consider moving&nbsp;your fountain in from the snow, rain, and cold to protect it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A garage, outdoor garden shed, or other protected structure all make for good winter homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, some&nbsp;stone fountains, large fountain designs, and heavy fountains can&#8217;t easily be moved indoors. For both indoor and outdoor winter storage, we recommend doing the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Drain the fountain of all water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disconnect and bring indoors pumps and hoses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t allow water to collect and freeze in fountain basins or bowls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fill basins or bowls with burlap bags, hay, or other material to protect it from freezing temperatures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cover the entire design with a fountain cover or tarp.
