A tradeoff: Heat or light?
This bulb replacement was suggested by an associate as a possible replacement for a pendant light with a burned out socket. I got mixed results.

First, the light output (lumens) is not equivalent to a 50 watt halogen. It is noticeably dimmer but not bad. The first clue is the package for the bulb says "35 Watt replacement", not 50 watt like the description here. My current Philips 50 watt bulbs are rated at 465 lumens of brightness compared to 450 for this bulb. The difference should be almost indistinguishable to the naked eye but that was definitely not true.

Color temperature closely matched the 2800K of my Philips bulbs.

The big difference, as expected, is the heat generated by this bulb. It gets warm but not hot. My daughter informed me when replacing the bulb that she actually burned herself once touching the top part of the pendant lamp. I took a thermometer to a pendant lamp and measured 170 degreesF. Yow! That is dangerous for an exposed part of the lamp. So for safety, this bulb is a definite winner.

Other technical notes:
This bulb did not work well with my existing wall dimmer setup. The bulb does not dim linearly. It stays brighter than the halogens as the lights are dimmed, then suddenly cuts out. There is noticeable flickering as the dimming increases.
Check that the 12V transformer for the existing lights can support low current LED lights. Some investigation indicated that lighting transformers have a minimum amount of power that must be drawn for the transformer to work properly. An LED bulb does not draw enough power. So the flickering and dimming problems I observed might be due to the wrong transformer being used, not a problem with the bulb.
