Can this fixture have a drop post added? i would like it to clear a outside porch header of about 3 feet.

BEST ANSWER: Hi, no there are no rods available for this ceiling light.
Does it need to be a CFL bulb? Could one use a LED build instead?

Tricky to install, and change bulb
The fixture looks good, but my outlet box was smaller and shaped differently than the one in the directions. This meant that the crossbar didn't install the way that it was designed to be installed. The main fixture attaches to the crossbar with two screws and they have to be in exactly the right position or it won't line up. This fixture does not use a center-mounted threaded rod like the one I was replacing. Luckily, I was able to make it work. I didn't have any trouble with the electrical connections. The other problem I had was connecting the metal ring that supports the glass shade. This is held onto the main frame with four tiny screws, and it was hard to get them in. I don't look forward to changing the bulb! However, it gives off a pleasant light and I like the appearance.

Pros: Attractive Design, Diffused Light

Cons: Hard To Install, Tough To Assemble

Modern looking
I like the looks of the product and have been very pleased with the soft ivory illumination it gives on my porch. The light shines out about 8 to 10 feet and overlaps with my garage wall lighting. The bulb turns on immediately and doesn't have that long build-up to produce a light. I had a professional install the product. He showed me how to install the bulb. I will have to be careful when I remove the 4 screws regarding the glass, but should be fine. Overall, I'm pleased with the product.

Pros: Area Of Illumination, Attractive Design

Cons: Bulb replacement

Updated review after almost 9 years of ownership
I originally gave this a 4-star rating because it was hard to install and the 4 little set screws that you need to remove and replace every time you change a bulb are a bit tricky. But I've owned this fixture for 9 years now, and I've decided it deserves 5 stars.

First of all, I only had to replace the original bulb a couple of days ago, so it lasted almost 9 years.

Second, once you get the hang of how to deal with the set screws, they aren't that bad. In my set-up, moths are able to get inside, so I've had to take it apart to clean it out periodically. I put a dropcloth underneath so that if I drop one of the set screws, it won't fall between the decking boards.

Best of all, this fixture, which is installed on a porch ceiling and has been exposed to some very harsh Michigan winters, has held up better than any other fixture I've had in that spot. When I exchanged the bulb, I was able to see close up that the finish was still in excellent condition. There's no rust or discoloration or any other visible damage. The glass is also in excellent shape and it's very easy to clean out the inside with a paper towel.

I also like that the bulb is fully enclosed.

One other potential issue with the fixture is that the bulb has a GU-24 base that uses two little connectors instead of a regular screw-in base, but I was able to find one [...] for about $8.
