I had a difficult time assembling this lamp, but Lamps Plus was most generous to have me send it back and replace it at no charge. I highly recommned a clearer explanation of how to assemble it, especially the top, shade part. But now that I have it working, I love it. It's just what I wanted.

The light turns off if you turn it on all the way.
Then, you need to turn it off to reset it. It's
Not as bright as I hoped but it looks nice.
It's functional for the price I paid.

I had to take this lamp back to the store after trying to assemble it at home using the instructions which turned out to be wrong, according to the Lamps Plus employee who help me put it together. Lamps Plus should contact manufacturer to ensure that all their products have the correct instructions, instead of some generic ones to fit all their lamps!

Purchased through the clearance center, it looks brand new. It was easy to assemble but a little tricky to get the top head on right. Once assembled, it is brighter than expected (a good thing) and is both stylish & functional.

Difficult to assemble top light part. Instructions were very limited. I spent a very long time trying to figure out how top light is assembled to rest of lamp. Once together, I found it put out limited light. That was a disappointment after all I went through. For the price, not worth it.

I bought for lighting in my dining room. It really doesn't put out enough light and the assembly was horrible. Took a long time to figure out the top. I almost gave up. Now it looks like it may not be enough light and I'll have to take it apart and return. Hard to find a good halogen floor lamp like in the old days.

This lamp was purchased to replace a similar floor lamp. It is a marked improvement. Among the features I most value are the longer cord, the built in dimmer, and the superior construction of the lamp housing area.

I do like this lamp, but I'm annoyed that it's made with the current style which allows you to stare directly into the light's edge. Worse is that the instructions rightly state (since I'm a physicist) that staring directly at the bulb is like staring at the sun and can cause blindness.
I have another torchiere with a simple shield that directs everything upward. It's easy and all the light hits the ceiling and then illuminates the room. This one is good and bright, but why can't anyone make a decent torchiere?

I have an older version of this lamp from 10 years ago with a 300W halogen bulb, and it lights up a 10x10 room nicely. The new version, bought last week, supports only a 175W bulb, which causes eyestrain in a 10x10 room. Not worth the money.

This lamp was the closest I could find that resemebled the good ol halogen torchiere lamps from the 90s.
For the good, this lamp is sturdy, works very well, gives off good light even with the stock halogen bulb. Its best used in a small to mid-sized living room if you want one lamp for the whole room. Its very decorative. Its a very good lamp over all.
There are three cons I wanted to mention and that is first the assembly wasn't exactly easy to figure out. Assembling the pole itself was fine but, the ball and shade made it difficult. The instructions weren't all that clear with those parts. It took me a while to figure it out. The other two were the heating up and cooling down of the lamp. Since its halogen it puts off a good amount of heat. For that reason, when heating up or cooling down you'll hear "ding" or "dong" (kind of like taking another metal piece and hitting the lamp shade with it)...the hitting of two metal pieces. This in particular doesn't bother me per se because I understand its a halogen lamp and halogen lamps get hot. If you wouldn't mind the cons, this would be a very good lamp to get.

I use this lamp in my tv room and by my computer. When set on high it lights the entire room and can be dimmed to just a glow. The lamp seems short lived. I've owned about 10 of these lamps. They only last about two years. Changing the bulbs doesn't work. They've doubled in price but not quality. I still buy them because they're perfect for my space.

I like the light that I get from halogen torchieres. It's frustrating that they are so hard to find. I hear about the danger, but I've had them for years and never a problem. This one is OK looking, but the threads on the tube didn't line up well, so it went together a little crooked. Also, the top isn't exactly straight. It works OK for my teenager's room, but not slick enough for a living room.

I love halogen torchieres for the amount of light they give, and the softness that comes from bouncing light off the ceiling. I like that I can easily move them around in my large lofted living room. I bought this one for a teenager's room, so it's OK, but the fit and finish is mediocre, and I had lots of trouble putting it together. The threads on the tube didn't go together well, so it is a little bent in the middle. You have to look close to see it, so I'm living with it, but I think I'd buy a better quality one in the future even if I had to pay more.

Overall, this floor lamp is a good value. The 175w bulb is very bright and illuminates my dining area nicely. The only complaint I have is that there is a transformer and on/off switch attached to the outlet cable which is bulky and not very easy to use. The lamp already has a dial dimmer on the lamp pole itself, so the floor switch is redundant. It would have been better to simply remove the transformer.

Ultimately I was not able to assemble this product. I could not secure to top. The lighting piece frayed before I could understand how to keep the top from wobbling. I've assembled many halogen floor lamps and have never had the problems I had with this one. Of course, having unpacked it, it was impossible to repack. So I ate the cost and placed it in the basement as trash.

I use this lamp in a dark corner for up lighting and loved the simplicity of design, but after one year with one bulb, the next two bulbs only lasted two weeks each with usage only for about 5 hours a day. Since the halogen bulbs cost $10 each, it is cheaper to get a new lamp than keep replacing the bulbs. I would not recommend this lamp to anyone.
