Bought two for our livingroom and they are great. The shades left something to be desired so I replaced them with a better fit.

I basically like this lamp and feel that it has a classy and attractive look. I also like the look and quality of the shade, though it's nowhere close to the "white" the listing claims. Definitely a light tan or cream color. But still, it doesn't dim out the horizontal light dispersion, and make the lamp ineffective, as many shades do. I think it represents good value for money, when it's on sale. But there are some negatives one should consider: Neg1: One reason I picked this lamp was the attractive polished finial ball at the top. In the pictures, it's clearly _above_ the top of the shade. In reality, no part of it is above the shade, and it's completely obscured. I'm confused where Lamps Plus got the one in the picture. That's my biggest appearance criticism. Neg2: the manuf. claims that they've expanded the size to accomodate economical bulbs. AKA, meaning CFLs. That may be true, but if so, a CFL will just barely fit, with only a few millimeters of clearance between the harp. Which results in... Neg3: the bulb is so close to the top of the shade that unless you have it on a tall table or stand, when you walk anywhere near it, you'll get blinded by the exposed bulb "peeking out". That's my biggest functional criticism, and I'm evaluating ways I can raise it 3-4 inches, to compensate. (I.e., if you're putting this on an end table you'll be walking past, the table should be at least ~23" high. If going in a corner, where you won't be walking closer than ~6 feet away, lower would work OK.) Neg4: instructions are poor. When attaching the socket assembly to the main lamp (so they could use a shipping box 3" shorter), to take up the excess cord you can't just push it down in, or twist it. You have to _pull the excess down, from the bottom of the base_, and it helps a lot if you pre-twist the socket in the reverse direction, before screwing it in and twisting back in the normal direction. This was frustrating, and wasted a lot of my time, until I figured it out. Bottom line, while I _would_ recommend this to a friend, I would _not_ do so unconditionally. One really should be aware of the above deficiencies.

Nicely made, but limited illumination makes it impractical as a bedside reading lamp.
