Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I use this lamp as my bedside reading lamp. I am easily able to adjust the amount and direction of light, so that I can get enough light to read without too much glare. It uses a halogen bulb, which generates quite a bit of heat. This has been great this winter, but it may not be my favorite feature in the summer.
