As mentioned by other customers, the lamp broke off at the base. I liked the style and light, but will not buy another one unless the design for attaching the lamp pole to the base is fixed.
It is great to be able to read with this lamp, great illumination!
I use the lamp for reading. Had it just over 1 year, but don't use it that much. Bulbs are expensive ($26) and are supposed to last 10,000 hours. Mine crackled and fizzled out after about 500 hours. Ottlite customer service were completely disinterested in hearing about the bulb--I even offered to send it back to them. I don't have my receipt of course, so Ottlite refused to either replace the bulb or send me a coupon for a replacement. I don't recommend companies who refuse to stand behind their products.
Use it for reading by my stressless chair. It's wonderful!
After much searching, we finally found the perfect one for the room.
This lamp gives a bright light that's easy on the eyes. It lights up the page for reading comfortably. I'm very happy with it.
Make sure to move the lamp by the base. The cement like material to create weight underneath the base metal and attach the metal to the base dried up in 2 years and the base fell apart. Never seen such poor construction! Absence of quality control is obvious!
Light is very beneficial for reading. Color differences are augmented by the light which helps with any color-orientated activities I.e. crafts, jig saw puzzles etc.
I bought this for my elderly mother about 3 years ago. She is an avid reader and was having difficulty seeing well enough to enjoy her book. We placed it next to her bed, with the base behind her nightstand. We adapted it for her use by adding an on/off push button by the nightstand so she didn't have to use the original switch that wasn't within reach from the bed. She loved it! She recommended it to her friends at the senior apartments where she lives. I even ordered one for my use a few months later. Well, look back at the title. It literally broke at the base. The pole metal sheared off from the base and it just fell off. It didn't even happen while she was using it. The warranty was over. I gave her my lamp, and she is happy, but I'm not. This should not have happened. It was not abused. So, even though we like the lamp a lot, I cannot recommend this lamp.
This light works well for reading in my comfortable chair.
This lamp is a piece of 'garbage'...mainly involving the light bulb. The Ott-lite bulb bulb and its construction must have been made in a 5th world country (if any exist). Very probably the light source (power section) behind the bulb is just as bad. I have now gone through two light bulbs in 60 days...at a large dollar cost for each!!! The first one just went fizz-pop with a little smoke and was gone. The second took it's time...30 days. At first would take time for the entire bulb to fully light and then... (you guessed it)fizz and pop. Do not purchase this lamp or any lamp with Ott-lite light bulbs.
Great for reading.
We put this in a corner next to the sofa where we needed a reading lamp, it fits nicely between the sofa and a large plant.
illumination next to a piano
I needed a low profile lamp for a living room with no ceiling lights. Room already has two table lamps not suitable for reading, so this was a good purchase. It would also function well next to a bed for those who like to read in bed.
