Needed a replacement for the halogen lights. The light bulbs are very difficult to change. I had to bend two of the lightbulb sockets to make them fit. Recently I was watching television and the shaft of the lamp, broke off and fell over. While I was using, it worked fine but I'd rather find a better looking lamp for this price.
I bought this for my office several years ago. It worked fine for a while but after about 3 years one of the ballasts stopped working. That left me with three bulbs. I noticed the other day that another ballast went out so I'm down to two bulbs. I've swapped bulbs around so it's definitely the ballasts. I expected more for the money. I have halogen lamps 15 years older than this that still work fine.
I have 3 floor lamps from this designer. They put out a good amount of light. But the concrete weight in the base of one of them disintegrated. Without the weight the lamp is quite top heavy. I'm still trying to figure out how to reweight the base so I can use the lamp. I like the lamp a lot, and it wasn't cheap
It's hard these days to find lamps that provide the wattage we prefer. This one is described as supplying the equivalent of 500 watts of light. This information seems incorrect, since the four bulbs it uses are all 100 watt bulbs, so you're actually getting closer to 400 watts of illumination. I don't consider that a problem, since it is ample lighting for the area. Plus, it's a very nice looking lamp with an appealing shape and heft to it, so it is very stable. Plus I really light its height. All in all, I would buy this lamp again, but there are some things you should take into account as you consider this lamp. One is that the replacement bulbs are not the standard base screw-in type, and they are pricey and difficult to find. We ordered some back-ups on-line, since that was the only place we could easily obtain them. On-line each bulb cost about $15.00 from the source we chose, and the shipping was not free. What that means is that about $60-$75 of the price you're paying when you buy this lamp is associated with paying for the four bulbs you need for the lamp. As for how long the bulbs will last, that remains to be seen.
This lamp didn't live up to its name--it only "blasted" light into the area immediately above the light source--the ceiling. The shape of the torchiere restricted what would otherwise be a great source of light.
Great added illumination for dimly lit rooms.
This replaced a 500w halogen lamp that had been repaired many times. This lamp emits as much light if not more and does not get hot. I wish that I could get it in a flat black. I would buy this again without hesitation. It was really easy to put together (I could have managed by myself, but two people was easier.) It is quite sturdy. I would have given it 5 stars if it had come in black. I really like this lamp.
Lamp lights up living room.
I just got this lamp today. It transformed my living-dining area from a dark cave to a gently lit, glowing space of flattering light. The illumination is soft but with three settings you can choose plenty of light. My living area rises to a double height ceiling and is spacious, so I was amazed at what this lamp did. Note: it does require two people to put it together. It's a little tricky getting in the light bulbs if you are not handy - use the larger slotted grooves and kind of wiggle them in. That's one thing about incandescent bulbs, any idiot can install them. The silver color of this lamp is very subtle and almost disappears into the room, an effect that I wanted. More than I wanted to spend and worth every penny.
This thing puts out more light than the Sun. We replaced our old 300w Halogen with this. It has 4 26watt CFLs, equivalent to 400w of Incandescent. At 1 bulb it lights up the room plenty. At 4 bulbs there's more light than I could ever want, which is perfect.
Gives good indirect light for the whole room but not quite as much as the 300 watt Halogen that it replaced. 300 watt Halogens are no longer available so it is the best that I have found to replace one. It would be nice if it came in Black as well as the Silver. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to light a whole room with indirect light.
we are using this in our living room and it's just perfect to light up the room and for reading.
I bought this lamp more than 5 years ago to replace an old 500w halogen lamp in my living room. There is no overhead lighting, the room is very large and I like lots of light. The lamp definitely delivers in that respect which was a huge relief after I tried various table and floor lamps and combinations of both and couldn't get close to enough light for my needs. Unfortunately the construction of the lamp is substandard in spite of the hefty price. The middle joint on the lamp has never been tight and now the top portion is also loose with no way to adjust this and so the lamp wobbles all over. We will probably buy another one the same only because we know it has enough light for us and we'll hope this time that the body of the lamp stays together better!
I bought this for rooms that don't have an overhead light. Until now there was no single floor lamp that would light the entire room - and this is the one! Lots of light, all from one lamp.
