I use it to illuminate and accent a nice piece of furniture in a dimly lit portion of a living room. It has an unobtrusive classic quality look - and a very small footprint. It is well covered under its solid base to protect valuable furniture. The control knob is solid and smooth, and can be used to entirely control lighting to a very dim warm setting. Its nice to own a quality item that adds subtly to the decor and mood of a room. Bottom line: glad I bought it.
