Bright Light in our kitchen

Used this to replace the florescent light in our kitchen. I was worried this would not be bright enough - with the standard bulbs it is very bright (our kitchen is medium size). I am hoping that it will still be bright when I replace the standard bulbs with LED bulbs (and the LED bulbs are more reasonably priced). The bulb attachments are a little cheaply made and I had to wiggle one of them to get it to light - yet is was also a nice price, looks great, and if you finesse it, it works just fine. Some of the bulbs were harder to put in than others, but I suspect there needs to be some friction there to keep them from falling out (note I don't have any other MR16 lamps for comparison). Since it is easy to accidentally swap parts between the base and the anchors, I recommend doing an incremental install - install the first rail and a single bulb and then test. Then install the rail and a single bulb in it and test. Then add the other bulbs.

Have to be very careful with railing and not put any weight on it during instillation or when cleaning or changing light bulbs.

We want to use the product to high lite items in our kitchen (old dishes, cups, platters, etc.) as well as lighting dark areas in the kitchen. If it will ever work properly, it will do a great job in accomplishing our purpose in buying it.

Attactive design, good value

Purchased to light a pool table. Does a good job from 10' ceilings. Nice visual impact with blue glass. The rail joiner should be more sturdy in design with better gripping screws. The ceiling anchors supplied did not work at all in the plaster board of our house (new construction, high end). Substituted expanding anchors that worked perfectly. Note: if you can't use their anchors you need to find ones that will work with small headed screws that still fit the kit's threaded stand off washer. After carefully installing the unit it did not work properly. [...] Finally found the problem. One of the hanger extensions had the wrong cap. The caps on the lights and the extensions are all identical looking, but the ones for the lights have a brass insert to conduct the 12 volts. All my light unit caps were correct, but one of the extension caps also had the brass insert. Once I unscrewed the brass insert from the cap the unit worked perfectly.

Inexpensive, and inexpensively made

After the Lamps Plus lighting designer recommended a TechLighting model which priced out at $2000(!), I ordered two of these for only [$] each. They look really cool hanging from my hallway high ceiling, bent and twisted into complementary whimsical shapes. But after installing them, one wouldn't turn on. Its transformer was dead-on-arrival. [...] Now, three years later, the transformer in the replaced unit is going dim. The product is no longer under warranty, of course, but luckily Lamps Plus has a replacement transformer available. I saved a bundle by not buying the TechLighting product, but now I have to buy the replacement transformer and get up on my ladder all over again to replace the part. So this product will save you a bundle, and looks really cool, but don't expect it to last forever. (To be fair, I don't know how long the TechLighting product would have lasted either. Just because it is more expensive doesn't necessarily mean it is made better!)

Great light

This light was a fantastic addition to our kitchen decor--it really tied the room together and lights it well. I was surprised to see someone else mention difficulty installing the fixture--it was as easy an installation as any other light fixture I've done. I think it took me 20 minutes at most to have it 100% installed. The bulbs are a little difficult to change, and I've also had a hard time finding a halogen replacement bulb that is translucent on the sides like the originals (the translucent sides make the entire colored globe light up). Bending the rail was easy--I actually curved it around my stomach and it turned out perfectly lol. We did have one issue with the light for a couple of months that seems to have gone away on its own--sometimes it wouldn't turn on unless we flipped the light switch on and off repeatedly. The lights would get brighter each time the switch was flicked until they would finally stay on.

Great light but track hard to bend

We like this light but there were a few big problems. The track has a hard plastic center that makes it very hard to bend for the desired shape. The installation instructions were not very detailed. It would have been better if they give ideas about how to shape it, etc. It took a professional to eventually instal the light. I've done a lot of electrical work, but this was just too tough without better instructions. I didn't want to damage the light since I couldn't know if I was going to break it when I bent the track or not. The only other problem is that we have it on a dimmer and it makes a humming noise that is very loud when dimmed. Just finding if we needed a magnetic or electronic dimmer was a chore because it isn't listed in the instructions or on the outside of the light. We had to take the light down and reinstall it to change the switch.
