Don't judge a book by its cover

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Like the adjustability of the lamp, however it is NOT like the pictures! Pictures do NOT show that the bulb protrudes from the lamp - so when the lamp is on and you look at it, you are blinded by the bulb! Should have had the bulb more recessed into the lamp 'shade', otherwise it is just a stand with a bulb. Better stylings would have recessed the bulb!!
