My second bedroom is set up as a study, as I work at home a lot. I got this lamp to fit into an odd shape nook by a window to be next to a love seat that opens as a single bed when needed. The dimming is wonderful -- the range from mood-inducing warm, soft low lighting that causes the room to be very inviting to rest in, to brighten to a very bright, full and very stimulating atmosphere to work in. I love the goose neck reader. But just like the previous reviewer, I found that the lamp tilted, would not stand erect, no matter how hard I tightened everything. I solved the problem by sliding something under the base on one side to "tilt' the lamp so it stands straight vertical. This remedy doesn't show where it is -- the lamp is on somewhat plush carpeting, so that hides any unevenness in the level of the base.. I have no idea if this would look good on a bare floor or a more firm surface. But I am glad it worked out for me -- because other than the solved tilting problem -- this lamp is truly wonderful. Shame they could not design the construction better.

Love the style. Being able to adjust the top light from bright to very dim is a big plus when we need background light for TV watching. The big complaint: the central hub where the main switch is located is very flimsy and even with the bolts tightened as much as possible, the top part of the lamp leans forward slightly.
