I received this lamp and although lovely the switch is on the left side and instead of clicking it away from you, you have to reverse clicking it. Very odd. Anyone else experience this?

Do the "spikes" at the top of the pineapple get in the way of turning the lamp on or off? Are they sharp?

BEST ANSWER: No, they are not sharp and do not impede access to the 3-way socket switch.
Is the lamp shade white or off white?

Tropical Elegance in Brass
I bought 2 of lamps for my Master Bedroom night stands and the brass pineapple lamps adds a special touch because I have a King Size bed with pineapples carved in the wood on all the pieces, bed, night stand, dresser and chest of drawer. I was blown away of the quality of the lamp shade and the Excellent workmanship and detail of the brass pineapple itself If you like brass this is the lamp for you to purchase. Tropical Elegance!

Absolutely love this lamp! Its the perfect size!
