BEST ANSWER: This is 5 3/4” square, and a 4x4 is actually 3.5 X 3.5”, so this would be larger than your post. The screws to attach it are on the outer edges, so it would not be able to attach without rigging a workaround. If you used a 6 X 6 (which is 5.5 x 5.5”), it could work, as I think the screws are in from the edge enough to mount it.
are the mounting holes on all bases the same distance apart?

BEST ANSWER: Yes - generally they are or fairly close in measurement for the square shaped post mount adapters.
How do I secure the lamp to the adapter? I don't see an allen screw or any other tightening mechanism on the mount.

BEST ANSWER: It depends on your application and where you plan on installing the post light. If you plan on mounting the post light on a pillar then yes you would need the post adapter and no pole. If you plan on installing the fixture in the ground or on grass, you will only need a direct burial post. And, if you plan on installing it on concrete, you will need a post with base. Great finishing touch!
The addition of the adapter to the post made a huge difference in the overall look. The look was much more finished and the post/lamp was raised a bit more also.

Base mounts for column lights, for six lights.
In the beginning there were many base colors in the same family to choose from, so we went with our gut feelings. Best choice we could have ever made, it looks as if someone had just taken the light base off the light fixture, and said here’s one that will work. Very well pleased. The screw heads are the same color as the base, which is good. A heavier grade of screw would work better for caststone installation. Overall no complaints, very happy.

Love it!
The four base anchor screws were 1/2” too short. Other than that, base worked perfectly with the pole lamp also purchased from Lamps Plus. We love the combo!

Perfect post mount
This was perfect for using with a post mount lamp to put on a wall. There were many color options so we could find the one that matched the lamp perfectly. It looks great with the lamp and so far is holding the lamp well. Great price, too.
