It this light a plug in or hard wired?
Eileen S on Jul 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This is a direct wire fixture, not plug-in.
Hello. Exactly what does on- off socket switch mean? I need these to be built into a wall, bedside, so with an electrician, it can look cordless, yet be controlled by a bedside switch and not a switch controlled at the entrance of the room. A reading light. Controlled from the bed.

BEST ANSWER: Hi, Lamps plus forwarded this me because I recently purchased them. I have used mine on the wall beside my staircase. They are come with wires and are designed to be hard wired into a wall, so yes they are cordless. Mine are controlled by a switch at the base of the stairs but I presume that your electrician could mount the switch beside your bedside. As I did my reno I used new toggle switch design as oppossed to the older flip switch. I think the issue for you may be the size/design of the switch. I asked my hubby who worked his way thru med school doing contracting work and he said he felt you could get other designs for the switch which would work. The nice things about the sconces though is that also have a on off switch at where the bulb fits in the socket (which i presume is the on-off Socket switch description). However, the main light switch has to be in the "on" position for it to be controlled there. You will also need to think about whether you want wired to on switch or two. I you go with one main switch, both lights will turn on at same time, but you can then control each light independedly from the socket. If you wire them independently with 2 switches, then you would have to turn both swithces on for them both to be one. Purely personal choice.

I ordered these & 2 large chandliers from them. During the process, i called and spoke directly to a representative. They were able to handle some very technical questions for me. They sell control switches in addition to lights. I would suggest calling and talking with a rep, tell them where/how you want to use the lights and ask if they have any recommendations for a type of switch. Or alternatively, if you have a relationship with an electrician, they may be able to answer that question as well.

Hope this is helpful...
