Almost perfect were it not for a design flaw
This fountain is great to look at and we love that we can really hear the water spill from bowl to bowl without having to strain to listen like we had to with other fountains we tried this summer. We also ordered three connected spot lights from Lamps Plus that can safely be placed in the bowls and/or outside the fountain. This provides more flexibility than had we purchased a fountain with lights built in.
HOWEVER, we are very frustrated that we cannot empty the water from the base for what should be a regular cleaning as recommended. We think this is a design flaw which could easily have been anticipated and addressed. There is a rim around the interior top of the base to rest the fountain on. There is no gap anywhere in the rim to allow us to pour water out. Nor is there a hole in the bottom with an airtight plug as we have seen in another fountain. When we turned the base upside down the water still didn’t escape but simply rested on the lid edges. Even when we left the base upside down for several days, there still must have been 2 cups of water in the base that had not evaporated. It is not easy to scoop the water out and certainly discourages regular cleaning. Perhaps the manufacturer will fix this.
One other thing to be aware of but should not be a deterrent from purchasing is the need to have this perfectly placed. Some days the water would flow nicely with no spillover and other times we would have to refill that water several days straight because water did not flow perfectly into the next bowl and the base ran out of sufficient water for the pump to operate. If this happens and the water is allowed to sit in each bowl undisturbed, mosquitoes will find an attractive place for depositing larvae. We will likely install a small cement base to replace the pavers we have been using.
