BEST ANSWER: Hello - The backplate is 5 1/2" high, 5 1/2" wide, and 1 1/4" deep.

Beautiful lamps -- worth the spend
Use these lamps as side lamps for reading in bed they look great and function well. I had ordered a different pair but sent back as these have high-end brushed metal finish. The dimmer switch is a plus as no additional switches needed to accommodate. You do need an electrician to install. In addition, if you desire for the base plate to be flush(eg in the wall), then you need to ensure you have room in the wall to accommodate since this is hardwire install. I left mine above the wall and they look fine.

The base plate is very large and thus requires carpentry and wiring to properly install.
