It says touch dimmer on the shade --is that also where the on/off is located? Also, can it be operated by a remote? (I have a torn shoulder rotator cuff, so is hard to raise my arm much.)

BEST ANSWER: The touch dimmer is also the on/off for the light as well. A remote will only provide power on/off to the fixture. You will still need to use the touch dimmer to control the light on the lamp.
Are the controls on the lamp, not on the wall base?

$300 for a light whose bulb isn't replaceable???
