Is the 29" width from farthest left lamp shade to farthest right lamp shade or the width of the bar the lights are attached to?

BEST ANSWER: The measurements will always take the furthest points out. In this case, it is from the end of the glass shades.
Can you hang it with the bulbs pointing up?
