what does "spider" in the description mean?

BEST ANSWER: The "spider" description refers to the metal rods (usually 3 or 4) which meet at the top center metal piece of the lampshade where the finial is attached. They ensure the structural integrity and stability of the shade. Perhaps a better name would be "spokes".

A high quality replacement lamp shade
I was thrilled to be able to find this replacement shade of my mother-in-laws decorative living room lamp. I didn't think I could find its shape, but the lamps plus web site was tremendously helpful. The fabric quality is excellent.

Perfect for our bedroom
These arrived much quicker than we expected. They are an inch smaller than our previous shades and are perfect in our bedroom. Nice quality, easy to install, attractive. We're very pleased with these and would recommend them.
