Can it be mounted facing down?

BEST ANSWER: No, it can't be mounted with the glass facing down. The glass shade sits in shade housing but is not secured with screws. It has to mount facing up only.
Can the wood be removed from this so we can stain it?

BEST ANSWER: I'm sorry, the wood cannot be removed for staining.
