BEST ANSWER: Wood or not, it looks like wood, it's extremely heavy, and everyone visiting our condo loves it. It has been a wonderful conversation piece. I purchased it online, and am so glad I made that choice.

solid, substantial, stunning
Whoaahh, what a beautiful torchiere. I fell in love with it before I even taken it out of the box. It was heavy, solid wood, packaged into an indestructible foam-lined container box. The base comes in 3 segments, the top is 12" diffuser. I have carpet in the room where this lamp is going, and unlike other "light" floor lamps, this one is standing plumb. I am extremely happy with its looks. I can only describe it as stunning, totally unique, just the right scale for my 11' ceiling. This is my first Possini light fixture, and I am completely happy.

Perfect for my needs
This was perfect to provide light in a darkened corner of my bedroom. I added a remote on off switch that I control without leaving bed....perfect and matches my wood furniture beautifully!

Funky Chunky Modern Fun
I wanted a high-wattage torchiere that would balance the large couch next to it and pop off the bright saffron wall behind it. The average torchiere is a spindly stick with a dish or cone on top, and that design would just get lost. This lamp is a solid, substantial presence that holds its own among other large, modish pieces. It would also work well in an ethnic decor scheme -- my mother is planning to get one for the room where she keeps her collection of Afro-Cuban hand drums and mud cloth.

The white glass shade diffuses the light fairly well. The shade is tall, so it does suffer from the problem hinted at in one of the photos where the top of the shade is not as brightly lit as the bottom, but it doesn't bother me.

Assembly is easy -- the lamp base arrives in three parts that you just screw together, with the cord already running through.

Great Lamp!
I've been looking for a lamp for my office that matches the room for over a year now and this was the perfect fit to go with my African Zebrawood/Walnut office furniture.

This lamp screams quality as it looks beautiful and is very sturdy. The only downside of this lamp is the illumination. While it's not a big deal for me as my office isn't very large - it cannot be used for the main lightsource for a medium+ room.

Cons: Limited Illumination

Love this lamp!!!
I have this lamp in the corner of our living room and it looks great! It is very sturdy, but yet modern looking. I love the that it has a dimmer on it.

Wonderful floor lamp
I purchased this lamp for a dark corner in a bedroom. It looks fantastic, with clean, contemporary lines. It is easy to clean (dust), comes with dimmer installed so you can adjust the amount of illumination to your desire. I also put mine on a programmable timer.
