The base of this distinctive modern table lamp is made from a single crystal column, with grooves and ridges at the top and bottom, and a sleek square foot for support. A Geneva white drum shade tops off the design beautifully and creates a pleasing, soft glow. Features a French wire style cord, with the cord exiting the lamp near the socket, not from the base.

BEST ANSWER: It is made of K9 crystal that contains 0% lead. K9 crystal is a type of glass used for lenses and prisms for lasers and optics as well as chandeliers and other light fixtures. It has good physical properties and can be polished like leaded glass. It also weighs less than leaded glass (crystal).
What does it mean by the cord exiting the socket? Is there a photo to show this?

BEST ANSWER: Instead of coming out of the very bottom of the base, on this design the cord comes out higher up the lamp at the socket. This style of cord is called "French wired". The plug is at the end of the cord.
Is the Base Column made from pure crystal, or metal with crystal coat?

Beautiful lamp with one oddity
The lamp base is high quality, solid, heavy and beautiful glass.
Because the column is solid (without a cord hole on the inside), the cord exits the switch just below the lightbulb. Looked pretty odd until I realized that I could tuck the cord behind my dresser mirror just behind the lamp. So, the cord exits straight out the back and is now hidden behind a frame.

I placed this lamp in my entry on a beautiful console. It is heavy and very high quality

I would buy this lamp again
Two lamps arrived and one was incorrect and customer service did correct after two phone calls.

Pros: Area of Illumination, Artistic Design, It has a crystal finial., Easy to Clean, Good Size, Well Built

Cons: No cons except the cord does extend from top

Best Uses: Bedside, Reading, Decoration, Living Room, Dark Corners

Awesome Lamp
I loved these lamps! I bought two for my bedside tables and they look very high quality and have a really great heavy feel. The size is perfect too. Not dinky in any way and I can be confident that with the clear quality they'll go with almost any decor. Heads-up that the french cord is a thing you have to think about. I have mirrors behind my tables and the cords simply slip behind those. PERFECT!

Cord comes out of the top near the bulb
The cord comes out of the top of the glass column, which negates the reason for having a clear column. You can clearly see the cord on its way to a floor outlet. Why would they make it this way? It defeats the purpose of having a clear glass column if an unsightly cord shows. Very disappointed.
