GloFab is a Swedish company that's using fiber optics in a strikingly new way. This sphere caught our eye; it's made of a single strand of fiber optic cable that's been woven into an eye-catching design.
Other applications have involved draping building storefronts, such as the Cartier flagship store in Munich. Very inventive and an indication of what fiber optic lighting is capable of. Link thanks to Gizmodo.
They look really nice.
This is pretty cool, isn't it? According to GloFab, the technique has proved popular with clubs and restaurants to put above tables. Thanks for the comment!
I think fibre optic lighting looks really good and effective.
Fiber optics often relies heavily on LED lighting, which is the case with the GloFab lights, I believe.
Another version of the marriage of LEDs and fiber optic technology are the fiber optic glow-stick table lamps such as this one: www.lampsplus.com/.../LED-Optic-Fiber-Light-Cone-Accent-Table-Lamp__K4162.html
A neat thing about lighting like this is that the LEDs can be made to color change and phase to just about any color you'd like. We'll be carrying more of these designs in the future, so keep a look out!
