One of my favorite features in fashion magazines is 'wear it now, wear it later' photo spreads that suggest tips for getting the most out of your wardrobe. (You know the ones I mean. A model snuggles fireside in a chunky cardigan and silk sundress, then on the next page she's in the same dress, skipping bare-shouldered through a spring meadow...) Well, consider this your handy lighting edition of 'wear it now, wear it later'. Because whether in brisk cold or the heat of summer, metallic gold and brass lighting is the ultimate option for the holidays and year 'round.
Nothing can rival the warm glow that a gold, bronze, or brass lamp will bring to your home in the winter. Whether it's a sconce in the kitchen, a pendant in the living or dining room, or a pair of table lamps in the bedroom, the soft and welcoming effect that the metallic finish has is at once a timeless neutral and a contemporary style statement that feels very now.
Then, in six months, when the weather starts to swelter, there's something about the cool and reflective surface of the metal that will have your internal temperature dropping just a few degrees every time you look at it. Is it any wonder that pieces like these are perennial favorites of traditional and modern designers alike?
