Here's another year-end roundup of some of the home decor books the have inspired and enlightened us this year. They are listed in no particular order, so pick and choose as you will. Look for these at your favorite local bookstore!
Los Angeles-based decorator Mary McDonald is known for her swank vintage houses. In the lavishly illustrated Interiors: The Allure of Style (Rizzoli), she shares her tips for decorating with a touch of allure and glamour.
1000 Chairs is from publisher Taschen's series on design. It's like a picture book for grown-ups, with page after page of chair designs. You'll want to sit in all of them!
Famous for her cooking, Paula Deen turns to documenting the charms of Savannah living and Southern style in Paula Deen's Savannah Style (Simon & Schuster). There are beautiful home photos and tips on everything from porch living to collecting.
The Selby Is in Your Place (Abrams) is from fashion and interiors photographer Todd Selby. He began taking photos of his hipster pal's homes, a project that then morphed into snapping pics of friends of friends. It's the perfect book if you are nosy by nature (who isn't!) and love seeing how other people live.
Bill Bryson's At Home: A Short History of Private Life (Doubleday) isn't a true decorating book, but it does offer insights into how we decorate our homes and the stuff that we surround ourselves with. Starting with the premise that, "Houses are really quite odd things," Bryson deconstructs his 19th century Victorian home room by room in a free-ranging discussion that's very readable.
And for those who crave the modern, Jonathan Adler's just-published book, On Happy Chic Colors (Sterling Innovation), hits the sweet spot. Lavishly illustrated, it talks about Jonathan's design philosophy and will inspire you to be fearless in your color choices.
Hope you enjoy these! What's your favorite decorating book for this year?

Nice list. I would also recommend the book about the iconic French designer Madeleine Castaing that came out over the summer. "The World of Madeleine Castaing." It's here at Amazon www.amazon.com/.../ref=br_lf_m_1000628241_1_9_ttl
