There is a standard round light switch up inside the shade that could not possibly be accessed if it were upside down due to the supports for the linen shade that rest on top of the bulb socket. It looks like a table lamp, so think of it that way, you wouldn't turn a table lamp upside down!
For temporary installation--can this just be plugged in?

There is a switch up inside the lamp itself, although we added a wall switch with a dimmer as well. BOTH must be turned on to activate the lamp, so we just leave it in the "ON" position and use the wall switch only. In fact, when the electrician first installed the lamp we thought it didn't work till he reached up INSIDE to click it on manually!
does this light have a diffuser? Or if the light is above you and you look up do you see the bulb?

BEST ANSWER:You would have to be directly under the light fixture to get any glare from the bulb. It is just above the center of the shade so it is well protected from view.

Bought these sconces for my "new" bathroom after major renovation. The sconces are sleek and elegant. They look great in my bathroom. I bought 4 of them to go along side the mirrors.

Overall, it looks and works well. Its a little tough to get the shade to sit square to the base and the wall at the same time. Also, does not work too well with the round plastic renovation boxes (since they sit on the wall, not behind the wall.
Very nice lights above my mantel. One of the shades had a slight mark on it, but cleaned off with a damp cloth. Easy enough to install. I was happy to find a light with a switch and a nice design, as they seen rare.

This Sconce looks amazing in the Living Room, Family Room or Bedroom. I recently completed a remodel on a home in Studio City and used the George Kovacs in all three.
I'd put these everywhere if it didn't ruin the fun. Seriously, this was selected as a soft, intimate light within a newly redone toilet stall that previously had a glaring, in-your-eyes above-the-mirror light bar. This little beauty, by contrast, is tucked along a side wall right next to the toilet. It adds the right note of tranquility and grace to an otherwise ignominious location. Why not make a toilet stall elegant with a real linen shade? That said, the electrician liked it so much as did the contractor that they both suggested getting a couple more for either side of the bed in the nearby master bedroom... I probably will!
I'm using two of the items to flank my bed as reading lights. I will have a friend install the lights, as they are made to be installed directly to in-wall electrical connection (which I don't have) In-line dimmers will be attached so that the brightness can be adjusted for reading or TV watching. I chose this style because the simplistic design goes with my minimalist/spa feeling I'm working towards in the room I wind down in.

Looked at thousands of sconces for bathroom. Like the clean, uncluttered lines of these lamps on each side of mirror and ordered same for another bathroom.

elegant and smart look for new bath. Only problem it does not supply enough light for shaving. Installed two of them one on each side of four foot mirror but does not give enough light. Ther than that they look great!
This lamp is great and has a great price for the product! It was easy to install and provides a great light in the room. The only negative is that the lampshades tend to move around when turning the light on/off, so manual fixes on a daily basis are necessary.
